Sacred Songs Classical Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Beautiful singing! "Panis Angelicus" has been one of my favorite songs for many years, and Renée has done it justice on this album, along with another favorite, "He Shall Feed His Flock." Precious and Haunting. Sacred Songs: 16 songs, beautifully arranged, starting with Ave Maria by Bach, and going through a vast repertoire in English, French, German, and Latin. Ms. Fleming again shows why she takes risks of taking the "road not taken" and making the songs unique. The Schubert arrangement of Ave Maria alone is enough reason to buy this beutifully constructed recording. Ms. Fleming is not afraid to explore well-known Choir music such as two selections from Handel's Messiah, as well as the lesser known "L'adieu des bergers" by Berloiz.
One of the most beautiful sounding releases in Classical Music for 2005.

| | Johnny Coles Little Johnny C CD (1963) Remastered
Sacred Songs
$8.45 Although this Blue Note session (reissued on CD in 1996) is led by trumpeter Johnny Coles, pianist Duke Pearson (who contributed the arrangements and five of the six compositions) really functioned as leader. The typically impressive Blue Note lineup (which includes Leo Wright on alto and flute, tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and either Walter Perkins or Pete LaRoca on drums, in addition to Coles and Pearson) handles ...
| | Renee Fleming Renée Fleming - Haunted Heart CD (2005)
Sacred Songs
$11.45 Although soprano Renée Fleming is renowned for her classical work, on 2005's HAUNTED HEART, the opera diva surprises listeners with an artistic curveball. Here Fleming not only takes on the songs of pop icons (Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles), she also sings in a distinctively different voice, employing a deep tone and soul-inspired phrasing. As always, her ...
| | Herb Alpert Going Places CD (1965) Remastered; Special Edition
Sacred Songs
$9.99 Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass were rolling right down the middle of the American pop scene like a locomotive in 1966 -- and this album captures them at the peak of their exuberance. By now, there really was a live, touring edition of the Tijuana Brass, and there was an easily identifiable TJB sound, with its strummed Latin American guitars, twin trumpet leads, delicate marimba or vibes (played by Julius Wechter of Baja Marimba Band fame in the studio), and strong grooves rooted in Latin American music, jazz and rock. Alpert's family of sidemen and composers were busy generating their own catchy hits, like Wechter's ...

Sacred Songs
$9.09 This was the most controversial Tomita album, where he uses Holst's spectacular, mystical suite The Planets as a launching pad for what amounts to a simulated spaceship trip through the solar system. Hence the title The Tomita Planets, which did not deter the Holst estate from trying (unsuccessfully) to pull this recording off the market at the time. When Tomita sticks to what Holst wrote, he follows every turn and bend of the score, save for a big cut in the last part of Jupiter and an eviscerated Uranus that nearly disappears altogether. Moreover, the music -- especially ...
