There have been Reparata & the Delrons compilations before this 2005 release with the bootleg Magical Musical History Tour being the most thorough. This 30-track anthology, however, has the considerable advantage of being an authorized production with correspondingly superior fidelity, as well as a 16-page booklet of historical liner notes with rare photos and comments from Reparata herself. As with every artist where you can't fit everything onto a single CD, there's room for argument on the track selection; one of their better cuts ("Summer Laughter") is missing, and there are a few unimaginative covers of girl group tunes that were hits for other acts. Still, it does include the songs everyone would agree need to be on a best-of ("Whenever a Teenager Cries," "Captain of Your Ship," "I'm Nobody's Baby Now"), as well as a few rarities credited to Reparata alone (and one to the Delrons alone). It still doesn't make an argument for them being among the best girl groups; the material's not always that strong, and the style's often derivative, whether of the Dixie Cups, the Shangri-Las, or other artists and trends. If nothing else, however, it's an impressive feat of cross-licensing, drawing from more than a half-dozen labels. And it does include some tracks that are definitely above average girl group goodies, like the Phil Spector-esque production of Jeff Barry's "I'm Nobody's Baby Now" and the moody, slightly psychedelic-influenced late-'60s obscurities "Saturday Night Didn't Happen" and "Weather Forecast." ~ Richie Unterberger
From 'Captain Of Your Ship' in the '60s to 'Shoes' in the '70s, Reparata & The Delrons were a very popular girl group on both sides of the Atlantic. Here are their hits and a selection of their album sides and rarities. 'Captain Of Your Ship' was a big hMojo (Publisher) (p.132) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[They] peddled piquant melodrama, the kind that came in tasty three-minute bites of bubblegum soul....Their back catalogue never sounded sweeter." | Best Of Reparata & The Delrons Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Reparata & The Delrons-Absolutely Brilliant I had been looking forward to this very much, as the only songs I had previously heard were "Whenever a Teenager Cries" & "Captain of your Ship". What an effort! ACE should be commended enormously, as the booklet is superb and the track listing even better. 30 tracks, and not one dud. How this group was not lauded in the same manner as the Ronettes, The Supremes & the Shirelles is beyond my comprehension. Just brilliant!! Skeeter Davis has had two phases of her career: the first as part of the duo, the Davis Sisters, with Betty Jack Davis (they weren't really sisters, by the way) in the pre-rock & roll era, and the second as a solo Nashville country crossover artist in the 1960s. ...

$11.69 One of the truly great Paul Revere and the Raiders albums--SOMETHING HAPPENING, MIDNIGHT RIDE and REVOLUTION are the others--1966's SPIRIT OF '67 is sort of the group's RUBBER SOUL. More mature than their earlier albums, it's still got a solid bar-band heart. ...

He may be remembered by the unenlightened as a purveyor of mellow '70s AM radio hits, but Gordon Lightfoot is as fine a singer-songwriter as Canada has ever produced (no small accomplishment, considering the company), feted by no less than Bob Dylan himself. COMPLETE GREATEST HITS is as definitive a Lightfoot collection as you can get onto a single disc, and it bears out the aforementioned facts handsomely. "Early Morning Rain," one of Lightfoot's earliest hits, is a poignant evocation of lost love on a par with Merle Haggard's "Silver Wings." "If You Could Read My Mind" has enough introspective pop savvy to compete with Elton John's equally ubiquitous "Your Song." The bluesy, subtly sensual undercurrent of "Sundown" makes it plain why there's always been such a large female contingent in Lightfoot's audience, and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" proves that the pop star can write a timeless-sounding folk ballad worthy of Townes Van Zandt. Clearly, this compendium presents Lightfoot quite rightly as a man for all seasons.
20 classic hits released by United Artists, Reprise and Warner Bros. From 1965 to 1987. features the hits 'Sundown', 'If You Could read My Mind', 'The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald', 'Carefree Highway' and many more!
