Clocking in at more than 30 minutes, this 2005 outing by futuristic California roots rock ensemble Grandaddy makes the most of its EP format. A seven-song mini-album with lyrics supplied by a fictional fan, EXCERPTS FROM THE DIARY OF TODD ZILLA finds Grandaddy mastermind Jason Lytle in typically eccentric form, supporting his songs of middle-class tedium with dreamy, often elegiac arrangements. Highlights include a six-minute epic, "At My Post," built around burbling synth passages, and the playful, lush "Florida," a track that morphs into a frenetic, guitar-fueled rock tune. Despite its brevity, TODD ZILLA is dense enough to create the feeling of a full record, making it a must-have for Grandaddy fans.Spin (p.137) - "Grandaddy's Moogy, moody music still sounds like ELO as HAL-9000..." - Grade: B+ Mojo (Publisher) (p.112) - 4 stars out of 5 - "'Pull The Curtains,' EXCERPTS' opening guitar blast, packs urgency and stinging riffs in equal wallops....Both spectacularly riotous and deliciously bittersweet." | | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Excerpts From The Diary Of Todd Zilla CD music
$15.15 Shakira's brand new English album She Wolf is an uptempo pop album. It is all about synthesizers and electronic concepts, all mixed with the world sounds that we are used to from Shakira.. sounds from countries like India, the Middle East and her home country of Colombia. She Wolf features a predominantly English track list with a follow up album of new and unique repertoire in Spanish to come in 2010. The title track "She-Wolf " boasts the infectious and energizing sound that made Shakira a household name, with a slightly more dancey/ electronic beat (about 125 beats per minute). Though most tracks on the upcoming album will be in English, Shakira chose to service the Spanish version of the first single, "Loba", two weeks before the English single is launched.
Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, ...
