4 stars True, they have changed.....but abandon the old stuff
To tell you the truth.....i just picked this out of a random shelf in target and to tell you the truth i just said i wanted to buy it. I never even knew the band until i bought the cd. After I bought it I stuck it in my car and was amazed by it's amazing hardcore melodies! I was almost shocked by the vocalist ben perri, for he to me was considered a classic screamer ( the scary type ) After listening to the whole album. I saw the album had many different genres with it. Emo, Indie, Punk, Hardcore, and lastly Metalcore. The best song from the album was probably sugar wolf. After listening to this album thinking i've just the cd of GOD (even if most of the songs were horrificly underground). So I then decided to look at the other cds and compare. I saw, as a lot of people say, a major difference. Too bad you're beautiful could be considered the biggest masterpiece of them because of its lyrics, melodies, and hardcoreness/metalness. Fiction we live could be considered as a beautiful album where you just wanna rock out with. It has the melodies, chords, and awesome punk tune to it. Abandon your Friends combined all but had most of the vocals by Francis. 7 of the songs were by Francis' vocals when the other 5 were with Perri. You might be thinking, " Wow this album is gonna suck.." Not really, the album is really another masterpiece with just more sing-a-longs and a lot more guitar work. Brian shows some major melodies in this and even creates a majestic solo in the song sugar wolf sung by Francis screaming. Overall the album was nice but as other people said it doesn't sound like an FATA album. Is metal still in it...yes...but not the metal featured in too bad you're beautiful. FATA created even harsher & difficult melodies covering the metal part. In case if your wondering why you see Francis singing more than Ben, you can blame Ben Perri. While making the album, Ben screwed up real time and couldn't come up with lyrics. Francis wrote all of them which is why you can see some duo combination between the two vocalists. The album is worth buying though.

4 stars not bad
FATA is one of the best bands out there. This cd doesn't quite meet the standards of the last one, but still really good.

3 stars Falling Short
This is a good album. Don't get me wrong, but like most of the other reviews I've read on here I agree with the fact that this isn't an FATA album. Although just for the record (this is based off of the latest comment that I had read on here), this album does not in any way, shape, or form, sound like anything blink-182 has put out. If anything this album is playing off of AFI's older stuff, around or a little before the "Black Sails in the Sunset" album. And the reason I say this is simply because the band that used to be an amazing example of what a good hardcore/metal band was and could be went to a almost sell-outish So-Cal old school punk sound. The vocals (when he is actually singing rather than screaming, and on another note just like in the Fiction We Live, there is possibly a tad bit too much) are very close to the way Davey sings in AFI's middle area works, and in addition to that a lot of the key sounds to FATA (listen to Reflections off of Too Bad You're Beautiful) are lost in translation. All in all it's a decent album. If you liked Too Bad You're Beautiful don't buy it just like you shouldn't buy The Fiction We Live, if you liked the second album, buy it, you'll be able to get into it more.

4 stars Abandon Your Friends: a BREIF Breakdown
When I heard that From Autumn to Ashes would be releasing a new album this past August, I'll be the first to admit I was giddy as a school girl. Their incredible improvement from Too Bad You're Beautiful to The Fiction We Live left me longing for more, and I was positive that Abandon Your Friends would fix that. That was, until it came out. Now, I'm not saying that Abandon Your Friends is a terrible album. too many angry fans have thrown hateful comments at FATA and their third album with no reason other than "This sucks!" Truth is, it's not a ihorrible/i album, it's just not a FATA album. I went in hoping for more songs like Eulogy for an Angel or Alive out of Habit, along with slower songs like No Trivia and I'm the Best at Ruining My Life. What I got, however, were songs that reminded me of newer Blink 182 (simple math: FATA not equal to Blink 182). As a whole, howerver, the cd is pretty good work. If you compare it to most other alternitave bands out there, Abandon Your Friends is pretty good. It starts out with a close-to-classic FATA song, Where Do You Draw the Line. I must say, this song left me satisfied. Sadly, ABYF follows up this strike with a gutter ball. While the next song, Inapprope, is full of catchy tunes (and more coherent vocals from Fran Mark), it shows just how different this CD is from the other two. In fact, other than some background screaming and a few songs, Ben Perri is absent from most of this CD. This, of course, is one of this CD's major problems. Many fans were expecting scream-laden material; however, most of this cd focuses on normal singing. In conclusion, I'm giving this CD 4 stars based on how it compares to other artists. If i were to compare this to, say, The Fiction We Live, then this would be a 3 star album at best. AT BEST. If you are a FATA fan and long for more material like their past albums, then Abandon Your Friends is most likely not for you. Hopefully, future releases will shift more toward the second album than the third, but until then I would at least give this cd a chance.
