It took Prisonshake 15 years to complete the follow-up to its 1993 classic, THE ROARING THIRD, and while DIRTY MOONS bears all the hallmarks of a decade and a half spent working on an album--it's a sprawling high-concept two-disc set with a variety of sounds and styles--it remains very much a Prisonshake release.
Divided into four parts (or entry points as the band calls them), each comprising a chunk of songs, DIRTY MOOONS is rather cerebral in nature. Bits of melody, half-finished thoughts, and sonic pastiche share space with straight-ahead rockers. Songs such as "Fuck Your Self-Esteem," "Crush Me," and "The Cut Out Bin" (a brilliant requiem for the band's career) are as lean and mean as anything Prisonshake has ever done.
