More I See You album
$13.89 An essential and, until its long overdue reissue in 2008, frustratingly elusive slice of seminal early Arkestra material, SECRETS OF THE SUN was recorded shortly after Sun Ra relocated from Chicago to New York in the early sixties and features a set of spare, brooding compositions performed by one of Ra's most powerful early ensembles. Clarinetist John Gilmore, guitarist Calvin Newborn and trumpeter Eddie Gale all make meaningful contributions to this dark, sometimes inscrutable outing, which bears traces of Ra's lingering obsession with doo-wop and his perennial fascination with themes of interstellar travel. Atavistic's lovingly assembled reissue includes the stunning, previously unreleased ...

| | Al Jarreau Christmas CD (2008)
More I See You music CDs
$15.19 For the past few decades, Al Jarreau has established himself as a truly modern jazz singer, one for the post-fusion generation--those who grew up with the sounds of the cordial contemporary jazz of George Benson, Spyro Gyra, and Herbie Hancock. CHRISTMAS is Jarreau's first-ever collection of holiday songs on which he wraps his supple, honeyed vocal chords around some traditional Christmas classics. Jazz vocal combo Take 6 lend their voices for "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and the considered, varied arrangements of Jay Graydon and Jarreau himself keep the proceedings interesting.
Arrangers: Chris Walker; Clare Fischer; Brent Fisher; Joe Turano; David Witham; Jay Graydon; Jorge Calandrelli; Al Jarreau; Larry Williams.
Personnel: Al Jarreau (vocals, background vocals); Chris Walker (vocals, bass instrument, bass guitar, background vocals); Take 6 (vocals); Ross Bolton (guitar); Michael O'Neill (guitars, electric guitar, nylon-string guitar); Michael Thompson (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Ramon Stagnaro (nylon-string guitar); ...

More I See You CD music
$7.49 Second only to Jazz Samba by Stan Getz, as the most commercially successful jazz record of all time (it even contained a single for the pop charts, Paul Desmond's magnificent 'Take Five'), Brubeck brilliantly popularized jazz and offered it as a palatable alternative to Bobby Vee. This album sold by the trunkload and made Brubeck a popular star. Those jazz critics who shunned him for becoming too commercial must eat their words, as this is a monumental ...

| | Jason Moran Modernistic CD (2002)
More I See You album
$13.99 Piano virtuoso Jason Moran has made a stunning artistic statement with MODERNISTIC. While Moran's BLACK STARS (featuring the great avant-garde saxophonist Sam Rivers) and THE BANDWAGON (a live outing) find him playing ably with a crack team of musicians, MODERNISTIC is pure solo piano. Aside from having prodigious technical skills (he employs dense flourishes, exquisite sensitivity to space, and punk-styled aggression), Moran has an all-encompassing imagination, as evidenced by the album's staggeringly eclectic set list.
The opener, a treatment of James P. Johnson's "You've Got to Be Modernistic," seems to be almost tongue-in-cheek at first. Yet Moran speaks through Johnson's stride innovations, illustrating that the future of music is always built upon its past. (Similarly, Moran gives a gorgeous reading of Robert Schumann's "Auf Einer Burg" here.) Yet Moran is equally committed to contemporary sounds, employing a hip-hop beat in a version of Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock," and venturing into breathtaking abstractions in Muhal Richard Abrams's "Time into Space into Time." Moran's own compositions measure ...

| | George Harrison Somewhere In England CD (1981) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
More I See You music CDs
$15.29 In the tradition of ABBEY ROAD's "Something," Harrison includes two fluid, slower numbers: "Writing's on the Wall" and the love song "Life Itself." The record's highlight, however, is the John Lennon tribute "All Those Years Ago." The shiny pop pulse nicely balances the sense of longing and loss at the song's core, and contributions from Ringo Starr, Paul and Linda McCartney, and George Martin make it something of a collective statement from a group of old friends. Along with his self-titled album, this is one of Harrison's strongest releases.
Falling squarely between the soulful, exploratory songwriting of George Harrison's early solo efforts and his later, commercially oriented pop, 1981's SOMEWHERE IN ENGLAND is a varied collection that reflects the guitarist's past with the Beatles and the musical currents of the early '80s. "Blood from a Clone" has an almost New Wave feel to it, ...
