| | Yello You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess CD Yello Discography of CDs
Yello were right on the cusp of greatness when YOU GOTTA SAY YES hit the bins. They had already separated from their indie roots by moving over from Ralph to the high-profile Mercury Records, and their music was becoming something of an underground cult in clubs and on stereos worldwide. Looking at the track's titles, one might think that Yello had lost their idiosyncratic sting while opting for commercial acceptance.
Bite your tongue--when Dieter Meier sings "I Love You," his voice is acerbic, mocking, and dripping with irony as the weird, bubbling electronics percolate over a faux-disco beat. If anything, the rhythm tracks are somewhat more standardized, but Peron and Blank hadn't lost their ability to surprise. They seem to call upon a seemingly bottomless array of bizarre samples, murky re-filtered synth sounds and a cadre of otherworldly electronics the ear has failed to hear, such as the strange pomp-beats and curdling synth-horns of "Lost Again," the spooky samba of "Great Mission," and the pumping android funk of the title track.
This remastered album contains the seminal singles 'I Love You' and 'Lost Again', and also contains 6 total bonus tracks, 3 available for the first time on CD including 'Rubber West', 'Pumping Velvet' (club mix) & 'I Love You' (club mix) plus 'Base For Alec', 'You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess' (club mix) & 'Live At The Roxy N.Y.'. Universal. 2005.
German release features six bonus tracks.
Yello: Dieter Meier (vocals); Boris Blank (various instruments)
Additional personnel: Carlos Peron, Chico Hablas (guitar); Beat Ash (drums).
Mojo (Publisher) (p.116) - 4 stars out of 5 - "With tracks becoming more crisper and more forceful, 1983's YOU GOTTA SAY YES TO ANOTHER EXCESS was where Yello's blend of surrealism and pop exotica was most successfully realised." You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess album

| | Yello Flag CD (1988) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess CD music
$12.79 Yello jumped feet-first into Latin American waters with the zippy FLAG. Much of this recording is an epileptic rush of massed congas, shakers, thumping beat boxes, chorused voices and, of course, Boris Blank's endless supply of electronics. Dieter Meier contributes the lion's share of voices--he has an incredible variety of them in store, alternating from fierce falsettos to throaty suggestiveness with ease, his abilities easily the equal of Blank's instrumental virtuosity.

You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess songs
$10.59 You might call the catchy gurgling electronic beats and wheezing sounds of "Blue Green" synth-pop, but if this is popular music then we need to re-evaluate Stockhausen's catalog. However, SOLID PLEASURE is indeed pop; there's a strange accessibility to this kaleidoscope of intangible sounds and rhythms. Oddball, obscure, obtuse--acquiring SOLID PLEASURE will convince even the most jaded '80s throwback that there was some integrity to that discombobulated time.
This remastered album was originally recorded for the Resident's label Ralph Records in 1981 and contains the seminal singles 'Bostich' & 'Bimbo' and also contains 5 bonus tracks, 4 on CD for the first time including 'Thrill Wave' (from the soundtrack Jetzt und Alles), 'I.T. | | Yello Stella CD (1985)
You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess album
$9.35 Yello exploded like the sun with STELLA, their claim to big-time fame. Dieter Meier and Boris Blank's modus operandi was creating a sophisticated type of dance music that managed to have wide appeal without sacrificing its strangeness. Meier's vocals, often more songspiel than singing, jump from film noir and back again. From the twinkling starlight, disco grooves of "Vicious Games" and "Domingo," to the shuffling ...
| | Naked/Kissing The Pink CD (2006)
You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess CD music
$10.49 First off, the name -- the sexual innuendo implied in the band's moniker, Kissing the Pink -- surely races to the surface, but the truth of the matter is that the name is derived from a snooker/billiards reference to a weak shot; the innuendo was just a lucky coincidence. The band certainly lost more than they gained from the cross-referencing. Their music had very little to do with overt sexuality, but that name (coupled with some decidedly unsettling album artwork) didn't help the group's cause with record labels or the general public -- yet those who heard the music before registering the images and name were the luckiest of new wavers in 1983. Kissing the Pink's debut album, Naked, followed in the grand tradition of eccentric art-school collectives like Deaf School -- pulling influences (and ...
