(2 Customer Reviews)
First issued in the early 1960s, this collection of musical Christmas cheer is packed full of the smoothly sung, sentimental favorites associated as much with Nat "King" Cole himself as with the season. The singer's performance of "The Christmas Song" is an unforgettable classic reprised here twice, once in an updated version that includes a contemporary vocal from his daughter, Natalie, and also in Cole's original 1946 recording. Other traditional religious favorites like "I Saw Three Ships" and "Away in a Manger" are also featured, in a setting that, with its well-arranged orchestral accompaniment, manages to sound both sophisticated and folksy.

Christmas Song songs
$6.09 Popular songs are often associated with the vocalists that made them famous but few artists actually have the distinction of having a "theme" song along the lines of Bob Hope with "Thanks for the Memories." Even fewer can claim to have two theme songs attached to them and Andy Williams is one of those fortunate stars. After "Moon River" became forever linked to Williams, he recorded a holiday song for his first Christmas album that gave him a yuletide hit and theme song. "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" was the right song at the right time for Williams when he began to perform it on his highly successful NBC Christmas specials that featured the whole Williams clan. Both the song and the television specials were so memorable, it wasn't long before Williams was crowned "Mr. Christmas." Of course having a full album of wonderful holiday songs perfectly performed doesn't hurt either and the Andy Williams Christmas ...

| | Josh Groban Noel CD (2007)
Christmas Song CD music
$11.69 Only his fourth studio album, NOEL finds Josh Groban already tackling that canonical mainstay of the adult contemporary singer, the Christmas album. As always, NOEL is a masterfully performed set, balanced neatly between pop standards and the more operatic material that showcases Groban's roots. Interestingly, he sounds best on the most familiar holiday standards, like "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and Mel Torme's "The Christmas Song," both of which he invests with casual, jazzy phrasing, providing a welcome ...

| | Instrumental Explosion: Incendiary Funk And R&B 1966-1973 CD (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
Christmas Song songs
$16.99 The title of Instrumental Explosion: Incendiary Funk & R&B Instrumentals 1966-1973 is pretty much self-explanatory. It's only different from other BGP label compilations (such as those found in their Super Funk and Super Breaks series) in its devotion to instrumentals, though you do hear some vocal chants and grunts here and there. And like those other BGP comps, this is populated with artists that even many soul and funk collectors will have never heard of, though some have modest cult reputations (the Pazant Brothers and the Afro Blues Quintet, the latter represented by the previously unreleased "Sunshine"); some are veterans primarily known for R&B outside the funk field (Lowell Fulson, Louis Jordan); and some are known mostly through associations with others (Pretty Purdie, aka top session drummer Bernard Purdie, and the Joe Tex Band). It's not quite as killer as it is rare, as much as some dancefloor habitués might beg to disagree. Some of the cuts glide through pretty routine, if highly serviceable, riffs and grooves, falling well below the cream of early instrumental funk. But there are, as you'd expect with a label of BGP/Ace's standards, numbers that cook really hard, like Purdie's "Soul Drums," which may be the most famous item here as it was sampled by Beck for "Devil's Haircut." There's no denying the reasonably wide stylistic ...

Christmas Song songs
$15.19 Richard Smith was born in Beckenham, Kent, England in 1971 and started playing guitar at age 5 under the instruction of his father. Concentrating initially on the music his father loved – the country picking of Chet Atkins and Merle Travis – young Richard digested everything he heard, learning the most complicated of tunes with ease and confounding everyone with his dexterity. Not only did he possess amazing physical skill, but a photographic musical memory as well. Often, a single hearing was all it took to get a piece under his fingers.Richard first met his hero, the “Godfather” of fingerstyle guitar, Chet Atkins, when he was only eleven. Richard was invited by Chet to play with him on stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London in front of an audience of 1,000. He played Chet’s arrangement of “Whispering,” and Chet played along with him. The audience was so enraptured with Richard that Chet asked him to play another tune. Chet sat in stunned silence while Richard played Chet’s arrangement of “Little Rock Getaway” – perfectly. Chet was too amazed to even play along! By the time he reached his early twenties, both Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed began to refer to Richard Smith as their “Hero”.Richard has toured the world, surprising audiences everywhere with his genius, showcasing a repertoire spanning an incredible range of musical styles from country, bluegrass, mainstream jazz, modern pop and rock, to classical guitar. In 1999, Richard married the lovely and accomplished American cellist Julie Adams, and settled in Nashville, TN. Shortly thereafter Richard went to Winfield, KS and became the 2001 National Fingerstyle Guitar champion. Richard and Julie now tour the U.S. and the world as a duo to rave reviews. Julie Adams is one of the most diverse cellists on the music scene today. Raised in Dayton, Ohio, and classically trained at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and the Cincinnati Conservatory, Julie has won many competitions and played in a wide variety of musical settings. In 1996, she was selected to perform the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Cincinnati Conservatory Orchestra. Since then, she has performed with orchestras in Chicago, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio and Vero Beach, Florida. Julie has also branched into folk music, playing with well-known fingerstyle guitarist, Muriel Anderson. Julie and Muriel toured extensively throughout the US and released a CD titled “Theme for Two Friends”. Julie is also a Nashville session player and has been featured on a wide range of projects from top ten albums to major film scores. She was most recently featured on a track with country legend Suzy Bogguss on “Beautiful Dreamer”, which won the 2005 Grammy for Folk Album of the Year. After marrying British guitar champion Richard Smith in 1999, Julie and Richard released “Living Out a Dream”. Audiences in the U.S. and around the world delight in the eclectic mix of Julie’s lyrical style and Richard’s flawless technique. They are truly soul mates – in life and in music!“The most amazing guy I know on the guitar.”“He can play ...
