| | Ozzy Osbourne Under Cover CD Ozzy Osbourne Discography of CDs
(9 Customer Reviews)
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Ozzy Osbourne is revered as many things: a heavy-metal icon, a reality-TV star, and godhead of the longest running rock festival tour in the history of the business. The Ozzy branding is a multimedia phenomenon, leaving nothing undone - except perhaps, until now, an all-covers album paying tribute to songs near and dear to John "Ozzy" Osbourne's heart.
First served up as gravy in the PRINCE OF DARKNESS box set, UNDER COVER is now available as a stand alone release, featuring several additional tracks. Putting the Ozzy stamp on Mountain ("Mississippi Queen") and Cream ("Sunshine Of Your Love") rockers seems logical enough, although some metalheads may be surprised by the lighter fare. Ozzy expresses his admiration for his beloved Beatles with two John Lennon solo cuts, as well as a poignant version of "In My Life." Also left off the earlier release but found on UNDER COVER, are Ozzified takes on Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way" and the Moody Blues' "Go Now." While shred guitar devotees may find the absence of Zakk Wylde disappointing, supporting the Ozzman are capable metal stalwarts Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) on guitar, Chris Wyse (The Cult) on bass, and longtime Ozzy drummer Mike Bordin (Faith No More).
This dualdisc includes the 13 track album on the CD side, and on the DVD side, the entire album in enhanced LPCM stereo, video, and Dinner With Ozzy - exclusive footage of Ozzy telling tales of his storied career!
Personnel: Ozzy Osbourne (vocals); Jerry Cantrell (guitar); Chris Wyse (bass guitar); Mike Bordin (drums); Bogie Bowles, Gregg Bissonette, Ian Hunter, James Mastro, Jim Cox, Joe Bonamassa, Leslie West, Mark Hudson, Michael Landau, Paul Santos, Robert Randolph , Steve Dudas, Sarah Hudson, Tabby Callaghan, Bruce Sugar. Classic rock and pop songs given the Oz treatment. None of them are oustanding, none of them are pants, all of them bring a smile. Don't expect Iron Man Oz or Paranoid Oz and you wont be disappointed. Submitted by Chris (Essex UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Great but something Wyldely missing!! Being an Ozzy fan since Blizzard of Oz,you gotta give him credit for still busting his butt doing what he loves to do.But how would these songs really sound with the BEST heavy metal guitar player around today! With respect to Dimebag, these two are the last of a dying breed of great players in my generation (im 39)other than Lynch,Eddie,Randy(R.I.P).When Zakk Plays I get chills, thinking My god where did this guy come from!Kids today need to listen to these guys rather than the flatted 5th tune down to low c,and why so muddy sounding Jerry, youre NOT Zakk so dont try.Stick to your Cry Baby your good at that. But I still reccomend giving it a listen! Ozzy Lennon! It's worth the price of the CD for "In my life" and "Go Now" alone. The rest of the CD is excellent, although I could've thought of some better songs for the Oz to sink his teeth into. Submitted by thesmay (Saratoga NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Ozzy Lite Let’s face it, Ozzy has never been the greatest vocalist. But you could always count on him to put out albums full of catchy songs and heavy guitar. I was looking forward to hearing Ozzy cover such classics as “Mississippi Queen” and “Sunshine Of Your Love.” Unfortunately, these covers left me sorely disappointed. I place the majority of the blame on the production. The guitar seems to get buried in the mix by the vocals. “Mississippi Queen,” in particular, takes a great song and ruins it by bringing layers of background vocals to the forefront, drowning out a classic riff. And this arrangement of “Sympathy For The Devil” leaves me wondering if Ozzy is gearing up to make the switch to a lounge act. The whole album just feels like Ozzy lite. $14.29 Survival sans Michael Schenker will forever be the plight of English hard rock heavyweights UFO. Indeed, for many ardent fans, the validity of the group's existence appears to hinge on the presence of the irascible German within its ranks. But with all due respect to the incomparable mad axeman, even his formidable talents have done little to elevate UFO's performance during its reunions of the '90s and 2000s, so it's only fair that the enduring "classic" trio of vocalist Phil Mogg, bassist Pete Way, and rhythm guitarist/keyboardist Paul Raymond should ...

Under Cover music CDs
$13.45 Griefshire is indeed a fitting title for the third album from the Liechtenstein heavy metal band Elis. After two critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums with producer Alexander Krull, Elis entered the studio in 2006 to record this concept album, whose songs center around a pair of brothers and their spiritual fanaticism as they search for truth, joy, and eternal love (yeah, this is far from the purposely scandalous concerns of black and death metal). There is something afoot here and it's far from the usual fare. Sabine Duenser, the band's vocalist, was a fine lyricist as well, and took a deep personal interest in the songs that make up this set. Shortly after completing her vocal tracks, she collapsed during rehearsal and passed away the following day from a brain hemorrhage. The band went on to finish the recording since her tracks were complete. The end result is a heavy, riff-laden construct that embodies classical themes, dramatic interludes that are near breathtaking, melodic songwriting, and the use of controlled aggression in a new way. Certainly this band, should they find a new singer, has everything it needs to continue and should.
Duenser's controlled, nearly plainsong voice stands in such contrast with the aggressive riffing of the guitars it's nearly a paradox, it's 180-degrees on the other side of metal's harsher side. Check the sheer beauty of the violins, ...
