| | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Acoustic CD Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Discography of CDs
All songs written or co-written by members of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band except "Hello, I Am Your Heart" (Dennis Linde).
A couple of years after the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's string of country hits ended, the band returned to its roots to record this appropriately titled collection of original material. Most of the songs are very good, and the sound is refreshingly unadorned with any concessions to the soundalike country mainstream. Because the NDGB was among the many fine artists swept aside by the faceless hat acts and young country babes birthed by the Garth era, Acoustic never found a sizable audience. However, this blend of acoustic guitars, mandolin, dobro, harmonica, accordion, washboard, and beautiful vocal harmonies delivers a bevy of country/folk delights. ~ Jim Newsom

Purchase Acoustic CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton CD (1966) Gold
Acoustic album
$19.10 John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers: John Mayall (vocals, piano, organ, harmonica); Eric Clapton (vocals, guitar); John McVie (bass); Hughie Flint (drums).
Includes original release liner notes by Neil Slaven & reissue liner notes by Paul Trynka.
1966's BLUESBREAKERS WITH ERIC CLAPTON is full of portent, as some of its participants would become superstars after its release. Future Cream guitarist Eric Clapton was highly rated enough in the UK blues-rock scene to score second billing, but it wasn't until this recording that he'd had the opportunity to truly stretch out in the studio and show off his awesome soloing skills. Clapton's earlier stint in the Yardbirds had found his ideas largely shouted down by pop-oriented producer/manager Giorgio Gomelsky, but here kindred spirit/producer ...
| | Alan Jackson Let It Be Christmas CD (2002)
Acoustic CD music
$9.89 Unlike HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS, Alan Jackson's fine 1993 holiday album, LET IT BE CHRISTMAS sticks exclusively to the chestnuts. Though Jackson has built a career as one of country music's premier good 'ol boy neo-honky tonkers, here he employs heavily orchestrated arrangements more characteristic of Sinatra than Skynyrd. The setting reveals him to be a highly adaptable and technically superior vocalist, and the music is gorgeous. Though longtime fans shouldn't expect Jackson's usual high-energy twang fest, listeners looking for soothing background music with a country flair will find LET IT BE CHRISTMAS perfect for any holiday celebration.
Recorded at The Castle, Franklin, Tennessee; The Sound Station, Nashville, Tennessee; McLear Digital, Toronto, Canada; Henson Studios, Hollywood, California.
Personnel: Bruce Watkins, Mark Fain (acoustic guitar); Brent Mason ...
| | Lyle Lovett Natural Forces CD (2009)
Acoustic music CDs
$12.09 Retreating to generally quieter territory after the somewhat splashy IT'S NOT BIG IT'S LARGE, Lyle Lovett also backs away from original tunes on NATURAL FORCES, choosing to devote the bulk of the 11-track album to other writers. Covers are common for Lovett, but not since 1998's STEP INSIDE THIS HOUSE has he spent so much time singing other's songs, and he revisits some of the same composers as before, picking tunes from Townes Van Zandt and Vince Bell, while co-writing "It's Rock and Roll" with Robert Earl Keen. As before, ...
| | Jamey Johnson That Lonesome Song CD (2008)
Acoustic songs
$10.49 Jamey Johnson is a successful songwriter on Nashville's Music Row, who has authored hits by George Strait and Trace Adkins. THAT LONESOME SONG, Johnson's debut album as a performer, is a happy throwback to the outlaw country of the 1970s, with Johnson's gruff, character-filled vocals surrounded by a small, rocking combo including pedal steel, organ, and fiddles. Rather than the polished ...
| | Rodney Carrington Greatest Hits CDs (2004)
Acoustic album
$11.15 While the phenomenon of the country-bumpkin comedian is probably as old as comedy itself, the 1990s saw a surge of popularity for country comics like Rodney Carrington, Cledus T. Judd, and Jeff Foxworthy. Carrington's act is a combination of Foxworthy's redneck humor and Judd's biting country music satire. Accordingly, his two-disc GREATEST HITS collection is split down the middle between a "Stand-up" disc and a "Music" disc. In both his musical and verbal comedy routines, Carrington moves a step beyond many of his peers by adding an X-rated flavor to his work. Throughout GREATEST HITS, he freely inserts expletives and ...
| | Billy Gilman Classic Christmas CD (2000)

| | Boogaloo To Jack Mcduff CD (2005)
Acoustic album
$13.29 Jack McDuff was closer to soul and funk than most of the jazz Hammond B-3 organ players who found wider audiences after the success of Jimmy Smith, and his death in 2001 was a tremendous loss. This neat little compilation from Scufflin' Records features several young organ jazz combos in a tribute to McDuff, and it's all a whole lot of fun. Highlights here include "A Real Gone Guy" by the Joe Krown Organ Trio, the zippy "The Natural Thing" by the Night Callers, "Briar Patch" by the Link Quartet, and the delightful "Butter (Fo Yo Popcorn)" by the New Mastersounds. ~ Steve Leggett
Live Recording
Tributee: Jack McDuff.
Personnel: Eddie Roberts (guitar, tambourine); Landis Armstrong, John Humphrey , John Fohl, Pete Nathan, Ron Affif, Giulio "Link" Cardini, Chris Vitarello (guitar); Mike Dubaniewicz (alto saxophone); Rich Wheeler, Eric Traub (tenor ...
| | Doc Watson In Nashville: Good Deal! CD (1968) Import
Acoustic CD music
$16.29 This release of folk-country artist Doc Watson's 1968 recording includes musical guests such as Floyd Cramer and Buddy Spicher.
The early and mid-1960s were good for Doc Watson in folk circles, but by the end of the decade, the folk boom was fading, and he gravitated back toward country audiences (even Joan Baez was cutting records in Nashville). This pleasant but unexceptional album was one result. Watson does genially sung, beautifully played covers of songs by Roy Acuff ("Streamline Cannonball"), Jimmie Rodgers ("Peach Pickin' Time In Georgia"), A.P. Carter ("I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes"), and even Blind Boy Fuller ("Step It Up and Go"), scattered among a handful of original and traditional numbers. The playing is more impressive than the arrangements, which have that trademark Nashville smoothness, bolstered by Merle Watson and Grady Martin on guitars, Tommy Jackson and Buddy Spicher on fiddles (they get a workout on "June Apple"), Floyd Cramer at the piano, and Buddy Harman on the drums. ~ Bruce Eder
After a successful career as a folk singer in the early and mid-60s, Doc Watson, like other folk artists including ...
