There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. The idea that a single-disc collection could represent the depth, breadth, and power of Marley's achievement is far-fetched, but LEGEND makes an excellent attempt. Every single one of its tracks is outstanding, and the artist's different faces--revolutionary ("Get Up Stand Up"), romantic ("Is This Love"), devout Rastafarian ("Buffalo Soldier"), and prophet ("One Love/People Get Ready") are equally represented.

FRENCHING THE BULLY, the Gits' debut album--and the only one released before the murder of singer Mia Zapata--encapsulates the band's sound and fury in a way that few debuts do. The skeleton of their sound, Steve Moriarty's high-speed drumming, is fleshed out with Matt Dresdner's astonishingly flexible bass and Joe Spleen's scorched-earth guitar heroics. The real star, though, is Zapata's voice. Occasionally ragged and often spine-chilling, but always powerful--comparisons to Janis Joplin are not entirely unwarranted--she belts out lyrics that often deal with the struggle to survive in the face of internal or external hostility.
Standouts include "Another Shot of Whiskey," an extremely catchy slab of vitriol with some very subtle hooks, the swaggering "Slaughter of Bruce," a take on country punk (emphasis on the punk) with a drum break more passionate than skillful, and the pair of "While You're Twisting I'm Still Breathing" and "Cut My Skin it Makes Me Human," both of which display a force of will rarely seen in rock music. The album's masterpiece, though, is the snarling "Second Skin," a brittle slice of self-analysis strapped to the body of a runaway freight train. FRENCHING THE BULLY is an American punk rock classic.

ARTIST BACKGROUNDIn 1993, Perrin L. Green made his television debut where he and R&B group Backstage Pass performed live and were named Musical Ambassadors for New Orleans by Mayor Marc H. Morial. The quintet was propelled into the public eye performing at major city functions, benefits, festivals, and nite clubs. One of New Orleans Hottest R&B performers Greezy has been featured with rap artists Tim Smooth, Bustdown, Partners-N-Crime and opened for major artists Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Teena Marie, The Neville Brothers, and more. In 1997, Green founded his own music production company S.I.T.M. Music Shoppe LLC. co-producing and recording New Orleans jazz, samba, and musicians such as Michael Ray of Kool and The Gang. Greezy wheres many hats; songwriter, music production, singer, promotions and media, also visual artist. Experimenting with various genres of music Green has signed many non-exclusive independent deals and worked with major hollywood producer Kim Fowley(www.kimfowley.com) and Hot producer Darius Deezle Harrison of Cash Money Records.
