Made in Mexico's debut album Zodiac Zoo is the exact antithesis of its mock-pastoral cover photo depicting the bandmembers at leisure with a lovely picnic spread in a garden setting; that is, it's an all-out assault on the senses and sensibilities -- which should come as no surprise to those acquainted with spazz-punk sonic terrorists Arab on Radar, with whom the band shares an affiliation. On the album cover they look like such sweet kids, the kind you'd invite to your pre-teen's birthday party, who would then set up their instruments and proceed to irrevocably damage the innocent attendees' fragile psyches for the rest of their shell-shocked lives. Zodiac Zoo begins with the sound of a stylus hitting a crackly record and an out-of-tune raga on acoustic guitar, a brief lull before the maelstrom hits: pummeling rhythm section straight out of a Jesus Lizard track, stabbing shards of fuzz guitar and incongruously choir-like vocals. And so it continues: vocalist Rebecca Mitchell alternately speak-sings in dry detachment or warbles and shrieks like Diamanda Galás (with Lydia Lunch's range) in a back alley brawl, depending on the vehemence of the moment. The guitar sounds like it's being swung around by its loosened strings, the bass like it's being hit with a rubber mallet, and the drums like they're being used as trampolines by a free jazz maniac attempting the Stooges catalog. And if the above descriptions sound appealing -- and they're not meant to discourage -- then this album will not disappoint. Made in Mexico is a catharsis for misanthropes and stress-cases everywhere, and is guaranteed to rile the savage beast in all of us. ~ Brian Way
Made in Mexico: Rebecca Mitchell (vocals); Jeff Schneider (guitar); Jon Loper (bass guitar); Dare Matheson (drums).
Made In Mexico Zodiac Zoo Songs Zodiac Zoo Music Review Average Rating: (2.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews OH MY GOD... Okay this garbage makes Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica seem like Beethoven, it makes Anal Cunt seem like Journey.
When I heard this I wanted to kill the losers who made it. This poor excuse for noise sounds absolutely terrible. Satan taking a sh-it sounds WAY better than this. Don't be fooled by the good reviews, it's probably the jack-offs who made this "music". Submitted by thoughts.compressed (California USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pitiful, horrible, annoying navigate away from this page NOW! You do not want to hear this garbage, save your money for something else, anything else will be better, the other reviewers who gave this 5 stars, well they are either lying or they are deaf. Take my word for it, these guys should be locked up for putting out this mess. Submitted by gertrude (anywhere USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Killer cd Apparently Guitar Hero people don't like it, but the album is killer. If you like Butthole Surfers, and Sonic Youth you will dig this. Unique stuff. Submitted by home (San Diego, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Amazing! Certainly one of the best experimental bands I've heard in some time. Great album. Submitted by chrisx2008 (Vermilion, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Annoying, and talentless, at best This is truly the worst band ever, all the instruments sound horrendous, the songs have no structure, and the voice is absolutely terrible.
THE worst "music" I have ever heard. Submitted by Dwayne (Houston, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Zodiac Zoo album
$7.19 The first good Jimi Hendrix collection, and one of the all time great best-of collections by any artist, SMASH HITS serves as a concise introduction to the Seattle guitar master's genius. Though far from a representative overview of Hendrix's career (AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE isn't represented, and 10 of the 12 tracks are from either the U.S. or U.K. versions of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?), the collection is sequenced like a regular album, and in this respect may be the Experience's most consistently satisfying record.
These are the Hendrix tunes that have recieved the most media exposure over the years, from the primal blues-rock stomp of "Purple Haze" and "Foxey Lady" to the electrified murder ballad "Hey Joe" and the redefined ...
| | Stevie Wonder Definitive Collection CD (2002)
Zodiac Zoo CD music
$10.09 Missing in action for much of the 1990s, Stevie Wonder is a living legend whose consistent creative output is sorely missed. THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION provides a snapshot overview of Wonder's stellar legacy starting back in 1963 as a teen musical prodigy with the exuberant "Fingertips Part 2." This jubilant tune, showcasing Wonder's much-touted facility on the chromatic harmonica, is a powerful harbinger of things to come. Along the ...
| | Them Belfast Gypsies CD (1967)
Zodiac Zoo music CDs
$16.49 The Belfast Gypsies' sole album was first issued in Scandinavia by Sonet in 1967. Though the lettering on the sleeve led many to incorrectly think it was an album by Them titled "Belfast Gypsies," the name of the group is indeed the Belfast Gypsies (though some of the group had played in Them when Van Morrison was their lead singer), and the album title Them Belfast Gypsies. That clarification out of the way, as for the music itself, producer Kim Fowley gives this rough-hewn R&B a manic, freaky edge on cuts like "People, Let's Freak Out," "Suicide Song," and "Secret Police." The Them-like atmosphere is heightened by singer Jackie McAuley, who's very much a Van Morrison-style vocalist ("Gloria's Dream" is a blatant cop of "Gloria"), though not in Morrison's league. Still, it's quite a solid effort, McAuley's organ pacing the band's brittle rock-R&B, with some decent originals and a diverse assortment of imaginative covers, ranging from Donovan to traditional folk to a tongue-in-cheek classical instrumental. Their tense version of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" is one of the greatest obscure Dylan covers, and the ...
