| | Tango Crash CD Tango Crash Discography of CDs
To call the music on Tango Crash unpredictable is a major understatement. From post-bop jazz (with fine solos from soprano saxophonist Rodrigo Dominiguez) and sound explorations to touches of tangos (featuring the bandoneon of Pono Topia), haunting and somewhat spooky vocals, world fusion, and completely uncategorizable electronic music, this program will certainly keep listeners guessing. Some of the tracks (particularly "DJ Peron") are bizarre throwaways, while others feature romantic melodies and impressive musicianship. This is definitely a mixed bag, a really eccentric program. ~ Scott Yanow

| | Miles Davis Kind Of Blue CD (1959) Bonus Track; Remastered
Tango Crash CD music
$6.29 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz.
Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic freedom of Ornette Coleman's Atlantic sides was also predicated on freedom from chord changes. But KIND OF BLUE was to prove the most influential, enduring work of its kind. There was just such a vibe about these 1959 sessions--Miles' lyric genius and burgeoning stardom, the innovative voicings and rarefied touch of pianist Bill Evans, the electrifying presence of Coltrane and Cannonball--that some thirty-plus years after its initial release, KIND OF BLUE is still recognized as Davis' point ...

| | Michael Buble It's Time CD (2005)
Tango Crash album
$10.05 Michael Buble's third major US release (including the mostly live COME FLY WITH ME) stays on message--this young Canadian loves the lush, swaying music of his parents' and grandparents' generations. Buble's albums, however, are much more than mere back-in-the-day exercises. The production and arranging of David Foster (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) is eclectic in a way that firmly places the tunes at the dawn of the 21st century, and, more importantly, Buble possesses the chops and sense of style to re-imagine the adult-contemporary vocal genre in a distinctive manner. In addition to standards by Gershwin and Porter, Buble embraces a variety of sounds, from Motown ("How Sweet It Is") to bossa nova ("Quando, Quando, Quando" with Nelly Furtado) to the Beatles ("Can't Buy Me Love" with a "She Loves You" tag). With his smooth croon and charming persona, Buble is a natural performer, and, for fans of fearlessly romantic and infectiously swinging music, IT'S TIME is a sure bet.

| | Hank Mobley Soul Station CD (1960) Remastered
Tango Crash CD music
$8.85 The Rudy Van Gelder Edition of SOUL STATION includes an essay by Bob Blumenthal.
Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Rudy Van Gelder (van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey).
This is part of the Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder Editions series.
Of all Hank Mobley's classic sessions for Blue Note, the timeless SOUL STATION is by far the most cherished. This 1960 set features a quartet of Mobley and three masters of the rhythm section, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Art Blakey. What makes this so special, however, is the sheer perfection of it all; Mobley's tenor is soulful and confident, Kelly is at his tasteful best, and Chambers and Blakey work in tandem like a well-oiled machine. The themes are all executed with straightforward swinging panache and the solo spots by all ...

| | Altan Blue Idol CD (2002)
Tango Crash songs
$11.99 Altan continue to go from strength to strength. While it seemed for a little while that the 1994 death of founder Frankie Kennedy would tear the band apart, they've ended up a strong, cohesive unit instead, one which continues to push at the boundaries of Irish music, albeit in small ways. But when you're this good -- and they deserve the tag as the best Irish band today, and certainly the most accomplished -- you don't need to make giant strides. They set out their stall with an assured version of "Daily Growing" (better known as "The Trees They Do Grow High") where Maighread Ní Mhaonaigh's duet with Paul Brady recasts the song -- it retains its folk roots, but becomes a living dialogue. "The Pretty Young Girl" brings Dolly Parton into the ...
