Edging up on its 10-year anniversary, Finnish metallers Children of Bodom have almost completely traded in their black metal roots for the sort of chunky, melodic action that many screamo acts built their entire sounds around. ARE YOU DEAD YET? doesn't hang up Children of Bodom's fondness for unrelenting aggression, but with the emphasis on clear, dramatic leads, slower rhythms, and garish novelties like their cover of the Ramones' "Somebody Put Something In My Drink," the band is enacting the sort of career change here that's intended to gain a much wider audience.

A Must Buy!!! Children Of Bodom strike again, having been a fan since their debut album, I can easily say that this is one of their best albums since 'Something Wild.' I read many reviews on this album and for some reason many COB fans seem to be missing the boat here. How can anyone dispute the furious 'Livin Dead Beat,' 'Are You Dead Yet,' 'If You Want Peace... Prepare For War' and 'Next In Line.' Yes, COB are evolving and may not possess a few of the qualities, that made albums like 'Something Wild' so amazing, but that doesn't mean that they are conforming in any way, to modern trends. COB rely a bit less on the neo-classical, in favor of straight up "punch you in the FN' mouth" aggression. Still present is the amazing guitar vs keys dueling, and Alexi's venomous vocals. COB are certainly an original beast and to this day there is not one band that sounds like them. Hats off to COB for releasing another deadly album. A Great Album, but still... I'm like everyone else I still don't know what to think about this album. Most of the tracks are good, but they kind of have the same guitar rhythm. The one song I was disappointed in was Bastards of Bodom I think it's the worst Bodom-murder song (Bodom After Midnight or Silent Night, Bodom Night are the best). The best song on the album is Living Dead Beat, also of the bands best. This album is really different from the first four, i.e. less background keyboards, Laiho's vocals, and alot more shout choirs (a good thing). All in all this is a great Heavy/Industrial/"Bodom" Metal album. It's worth a listen.
One more thing, hardcore Bodom fans quit bitching and whining this isn't the end of the hate crew. Submitted by livingdeadbeat87 (Imperial, Ca) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pleasantly surprised after all the negatives This album is actually quite good-i'd avoided it because fans of the group said it was an irredeemable piece of crap. This is not the case at all! It has all the fiery energy and aggression mixed with top-notch musicianship that we've come to expect from these fellows. The batch of songs isn't half-bad either; some of the lyrics seem to have an existentialist edge to them. Overall, a very worthwhile record. Oh Heck Yea!!! Guys and Girls if your into Fast and Heavy Riffs and Blasting Drum beats with a melodic style to it this is the cd for you. Songs like Living Dead Beat and Trashed are just some of the great examples of the quality and sound of this wonderful and awesome band. So I ask you Are you Dead Yet? cause if not then you should definatly pick up this cd. Submitted by Dragonflashbolt (U.S.Of Freaking A) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$11.25 Nevermore's sixth album arrives bearing few surprises -- which, for a band less accomplished or too comfortable in their niche, would generally be seen as a negative attribute. Not here, as Seattle's finest mid-'00s heavy metal outfit (sorry Queensr˙che!) continue to set the bar for purist-leaning metal-heads on this side of the pond. As always, and not to take anything away from their cohorts (particularly drummer extraordinaire Van Williams), the soaring vocals of Warrel Dane and lead guitar heroics of Jeff Loomis act as twin beacons shining out from the band's gloriously metallic bulk. ...

Are You Dead Yet? CD music
$10.59 Anyone who is seriously knowledgeable of metal's past and present can tell you that there's a brave new world in headbanger music. Today's neo-headbangers are likely to be influenced by punk, hip-hop, or industrial music; they probably grew up listening to the Notorious B.I.G., Black Flag, and Skinny Puppy, as well as Slayer and Metallica, and they might even consider a hip-hop DJ the perfect companion for downtuned guitars and chug-chug riffs. But not every metal band that was formed in the '90s or 2000s is part of this brave new world. In the power metal revival field, the past isn't just something you admire -- it's something you carefully emulate, which is exactly what Iron Savior do on Battering Ram. This 2004 release finds the German metalheads continuing to do what they've been doing since 1996; they're still partying like it's 1982. ...

$12.49 {{ on sale now for $10.97, regularly $13. 97 }}Found Sound is the addictive sonic offering from San Francisco based outfit, Sizemix. The title is not only symbolic of the band solidifying their own sound but also a testament to their compositional process. Sizemix found a way to translate their fluid improvisational structures into an album format. The tracks for the album were culled from what was previously free thematic material taken from their live repertoire. Sizemix is a genre blurring three-piece group consisting of Turntables, Guitar, and Bass. Their resulting sound blends elements of improvisation and their own take on trip-hop/hip-hop/downtempo electronic forms into an original format. Each member brings a unique background and perspective on music to the table, adding to the diverse directions their sound takes, and expanding the possibilities in tonal experimentation. All three members played for 2 years together in Varius Ardis, a five-piece (add trumpet and drums) before forming Sizemix in the Fall of 2002DJ Eye: TurntablesA DJ and Producer force to be reckoned with, DJ Eye is changing the way the Turntables fit in with live music.
