| | Eurythmics Ultimate Collection CD Eurythmics Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
By the late '80s and into the '90s, the Eurythmics sound favored sweeping balladry and smooth, loungy productions (the closer of the set, "Was It Just Another Love Affair?," is a case in point). There is a fair sampling of that material, but ULTIMATE sticks primarily to the band's mid-'80s peak, showcasing their finest songs, the superb producing and arranging of Dave Stewart, and the exceptional vocals of Annie Lennox.
Besting 1991's GREATEST HITS with a longer track list and the inclusion of two new recordings, the Eurythmics' ULTIMATE COLLECTION is a definitive exhibition of the band's best songs. The Eurythmics were always a singles band, and a set such as this--with indelible hypnotic/robotic grooves like "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) alongside the synth-pop melancholia of "Here Comes the Rain Again" and raucous neo-soul like "Would I Lie to You?"--helps one appreciate how much great work the duo produced.
Eurythmics: David A. Stewart, Annie Lennox.
Ultimate Collection Music Eurythmics Ultimate Collection Songs Ultimate Collection Music Ultimate Collection Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Ultimate! This is really the ultimate collection.
The choice of the songs is perfect and really representative of their best works.
The mastering is well done so the sound is reaaly nice and incisive; the music is great.
Well it really deserves the best judgement, it would be an A+ at MIT, I would like to be able to rate it 5 stars+ if I could. Submitted by Pier Giorgio (Torino, Italy) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
80's ICONS prove they still have it!!! What sets this collection apart from the '91 hits set is that some songs are sadly eliminated, most notably "Don't Ask Me Why" and "King & Queen Of America", but other great "shoulda-been hits" are tossed on; "Right By Your Side", "You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart", among others. Plus, as is the case for any decent greatest hits out nowadays, a couple new songs are here for good measure. "I've Got A Life" ranks right up there with the classic songs from the Eurythmics. Dancey enough for the clubs, but with Annie Lennox's intense vocals making it something more. So, if you're like me and you had their first hits collection, it's about time to trade up! Great New Collection This is a great new remastered collection by 80's Hit Makers, The Eurythmics. My only concern is they left off material from their 1989 album "We Too Are One". I don't understand why? Otherwise, it's a great disc full of great pop music! Submitted by paisleyparque (Greensboro, NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Amazing stuff! The Eurythmics made some wonderful songs, especially during their '80's peak. Just listening to these again reminds me of just how great they are, I especially admire Annie Lennox as an amazing woman anyway- her performance at the Live 8 concert was great and she is incredible for her work with HIV & AIDS awareness. If you love great popular music with real lyrics sung to perfection, buy this CD. Submitted by truefunksoldier (Bath, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Peter Gabriel Hit CDs (2003) Remastered
Ultimate Collection
$14.89 Although Peter Gabriel received the greatest-hits treatment with 1990's SHAKING THE TREE, the 13 years following that collection made it clear that another, more comprehensive retrospective was needed. During this time, Gabriel recorded only two official solo albums, US and UP, but the avant-pop icon also pursued other audio/visual projects, such as OVO, his contribution to London's massive Millennium Dome exhibit. The two-disc compilation HIT pairs his post-2000 work with his pioneering songs from 1977-1992, and the result is a remarkable musical document.
While HIT features the majority of the classic songs from SHAKING THE TREE, it also includes two essential tracks excluded from that earlier compilation, "The Rhythm of the Heat," a slow-burning exercise in tribal beats, and "In Your Eyes," the ...
| | Very Best Of Jackson Browne CDs (2004) Remastered; Digipak
Ultimate Collection
$21.15 Recorded between 1972 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Dave Marsh.
Before this double-disc dose of Jackson Browne's best came along, the influential troubadour's most extensive career summary was the 15-song THE NEXT VOICE YOU HEAR. This truly definitive anthology contains just about everything on that disc and plenty more. Browne helped define the 1970s singer/songwriter idiom, and that process is carefully documented here, as on the precociously world-weary "These Days" and the soulful, Van Morrison-like "Doctor My Eyes." The collection follows Browne through the years, as he toughens up his sound with more of a rock edge ("Running on Empty," "Boulevard") and adds a sociopolitical edge to his lyrics ("Lives ...
| | Animals Retrospective CD (2004)
Ultimate Collection
$13.65 Today the most recognition the Animals get is "House of the Rising Sun" being played on oldies radio, but in the mid-1960s they were a powerful part of the British Invasion, often reckoned on a par with the Beatles, the Stones, and the Who. Like those bands, the Animals had strong roots in blues and R&B, but, in their original incarnation, they stayed closer to those roots than their peers did. This definitive compilation, masterfully assembled by the ABKCO think tank of Teri Landi and Jody Klein, shows the tough, uncompromising use to which the Animals put their American influences. John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is recast as a raw garage rocker glazed with Alan Price's sinister organ riffs, and the aforementioned "House of the Rising Sun" is transformed from a traditional folk lament to an urgent, ominous piece of churning tumult.
Of course, the group skillfully expanded those roots (with the ...
