The musical careers of finalists from the American Idol TV series have become big business, and Bo Bice is the next (as of late 2005) star product of the show. With his long, flowing locks, boyish, scruffy face, and vaguely hippie appearance (on the cover of his debut he is wearing a groovy paisley-embroidered shirt), Bice looks at once exotic yet safe and familiar. His music, which blends the flavor of classic rock with Top 40 accessibility, is put together just as well.
There are 11 tracks here, nearly all of which come complete with rock theatrics and anthemic, stadium-ready choruses designed to stick in the mind. Bice has a voice that can be both sultry and soaring ("U Make Me Better" is a case in point), and nearly all of THE REAL THING shows off his talent. Surprisingly excellent This guy is talented, and with the help of some great songwriters, he came out with a really, really good album. Not hard rocking like some people expected, but powerful vocals and and catchy hooks make for a whole batch of very memorable mid-tempo love songs. A WONDERFULL CD!! If you only like Bo's southern rock songs on AI then you will not find this CD to your liking. But, if you enjoyed all of Bo's songs, the ballads, the pop tunes, and the southern rock songs then you will like this CD. At first listen ,only 2 or 3 songs caught my attention.
