BOHEMIO ENAMORADO was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Latin Pop Album. A Cuban pop songwriter, producer, and studio musician par excellence, Donato Poveda had a career in music that spanned several decades before the heavily anticipated release of BOHEMIO ENAMORADO, his first solo effort. Luckily, Poveda sticks with his strengths, delivering a smooth-as-molasses album composed primarily of heartfelt love ballads and pop-salsa. Expectedly, the production is first rate throughout, letting the emphasis rest firmly on Proveda's powerful tenor vocals, which are delivered with a refreshing directness, sincerity and lack of over-singing. Highlights include the tear-jerking "Maldito Sea" and the peppy "Ella Y El," but there really isn't a weak song on the album. With BOHEMIO ENAMORADO, Donato Poveda has proved himself more than capable of delivering as a solo artist and, though he sings primarily in Spanish, his music would likely find favor with fans of contemporary R&B balladry in the vein of Usher and Babyface.
