| | Jesse McCartney Live: The Beautiful Soul Tour CD Jesse McCartney Discography of CDs
On this 2005 live outing, teen actor/singer Jesse McCartney is backed by a full rock band. The tight interplay of McCartney's ensemble puts some serious muscle behind his tween-friendly pop tunes, allowing the Broadway-trained performer to belt ... Full Descriptionout his hits with unrestrained energy. As this disc's title implies, McCartney runs through most of the songs on his successful BEAUTIFUL SOUL album, including a funky, guitar-heavy take on "Without U" and a Maroon 5-like, R&B-tinged rendition of "Because You Live." Although the screams of giddy teenage girls sometimes threaten to eclipse the music, LIVE serves as a nice showcase for McCartney's strong vocals and charming on-stage presence, making this the rare concert recording that rivals its studio counterpart.

Live: The Beautiful Soul Tour album
$6.39 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from somebody's room.
Heard today, the thing still packs a wallop. ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Live: The Beautiful Soul Tour CD music
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Live: The Beautiful Soul Tour music CDs
$12.05 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA with the same passion ...
| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
Live: The Beautiful Soul Tour songs
$12.15 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice that Stephin Merritt would probably kill for. Antony's unique pipes bring to mind an androgynous Bryan Ferry or a high, quavery summit meeting between Jimmy Scott (another Reed supporter) and Aaron Neville. The stately, ...

Les Paul is known not only for his contributions to the development of the electric guitar, but for his wizardry in the studio as well (he was a pioneer in the use of multi-track recordings). Part of what makes CHESTER AND LESTER such a treat, however, is the straightforward, easy feel of the session, which seems leagues removed from Paul's ...

What do you get when you combine Damon Albarn, singer for Britpop superstars Blur, with hip-hop producer Dan The Automator? Gorillaz, silly! Albarn takes a busman's holiday and avails himself of the opportunity to take the kind of sonic risks one would be unlikely to find on a Blur album. This isn't hip-hop or dance music ...
