Amy's debut album Best Days showcases her extraordinary vocal talent, featuring classical works and orchestrated traditional folk songs as well as three brand new tracks, all highlighting Amy's exceptional voice. With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. As advertised on the cover, songs by Jerry Landis (later known as Paul Simon), the Nighthawks (featuring Buddy Holly on guitar), and Kenny & the Cadets (Beach Boys connections) are featured. Starz' sophomore album, Violation, was quite similar to its predecessor. Jack Douglas was still the band's producer, and Starz continued to favor the type of slick, commercial hard rock that would be called pop-metal in the '80s and early '90s. This 1977 LP didn't establish Starz as major players in the pop-metal field; the New Yorkers did have a small following, although not a huge one. Nonetheless, this is an enjoyable record. It doesn't contain any pop-metal masterpieces like Kiss' "Shout It out Loud" or Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz," but tracks like "Cherry Baby" and "Rock Six Times" are certainly decent.
