Customer Scandinavian Works For Violin & Orch Reviews
Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)
Wonderful Smaller Pieces for Violin & Orchestra! Cecilia Zilliacus' first recording with an orchestra is truely a winner. She has picked excellent romantic scandinavian violin pieces which will be appreciated by all but the most stone-hearted 12-tone rascals in our world. The playing, intonation and pace of the works are first rate. Even the contemporary piece which is placed last (Daniel Nelson's Dances and Air) is a neo-romantic piece which you will enjoy hearing many times over. The Sibelius Humoresques are meltingly beautiful, but the Stenhammer and Svendsen pieces even out-romanticize them! Carl Nielsen's Romance, opus 2, is the most modern sounding of them all, and it is warm and attractive with slight angularities of sound and orchestration. I find Ms. Zilliacus' violin warm, slightly fuzzy and recorded at just the right space. The engineers at Intim Musik AB have done themselves proud! Buy this album for a chilly autumn evening by the fire with your dog at your feet and your cat in your lap. You'll love it. Submitted by Poppynogood (Iowa City, IA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
