Arranger: Warren Hildebrand. It's doubtful that this is the best Cajun collection ever assembled, but it does a good job of showing the two main tenets of what makes Cajun music tick, namely that Cajun is first and foremost a dance music, and its strongest pop affiliation is to traditional country, both attributes clearly on display in songs here like Johnny Sonnier's country waltz "Paul Diegle on the Jukebox" and Sammy Naquin's fiddle-funky "Meeko the Cajun." ~ Steve Leggett Best Of Cajun Review

| | Israel Iz Kamakawiwo'Ole Alone In Iz World CD (2001)
Best Of Cajun
$13.29 This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Contains an untitled hidden track after "In This Life." Personnel includes: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (vocals, ukulele); Mel Amina, Barry Flanagan (guitar). Recorded in Hawaii. Includes liner notes by Jon De Mello. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. The late Israel Kamakawio'ole, known to his many fans simply as Iz, was a consummate Hawaiian with a wonderful voice and accomplished ukulele technique. This posthumous release of some unplugged performances, enhanced arrangements, and previously unreleased songs is definitely for his legion of admirers. While best known for his native Hawaiian songs, Iz covered a lot of ground, and three of the most affecting tracks here are standards: his take on "Mona Lisa," starting alone, then with a full arrangement behind ...

| | Raisin Pickers Handed Down CD (2006)
Best Of Cajun
$9.85 This is the Raisin Pickers’ third release, but the first that features the current lineup of Mark and Carol Palms, David Mosher and James Sneyd. Think of the Raisin Pickers as a string band that swings. Or, if you prefer, think of them as songwriters who can go from ballad to bluegrass without missing a musical beat. Handed Down opens with the title cut, a lament for the family farm, skillfully written by founding member Mark Palms. Mark sings and plays guitar, old-time banjo and fiddle throughout this recording. His other song contributions include a delicious number called Chicken Flippin' which celebrates the traditional summer cookout in their hometown of Manchester, Michigan. A cookout so fine ”Home of the Famous Chicken Broil” is engraved on the town’s welcoming road sign. Mark’s song gives ”flippin’ the bird” a whole new meaning. And don’t forget Out Of This World, Mark’s song about....on second thought, I’ll leave that one for you to discover for yourself. Mark’s musical and life partner, Carol Palms, thumps a steady stand-up bass and lets fly on Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring. Her love of singing in the swing style is obvious. But she can handle the ballads ...
