After the abstract funk experimentation of REMAIN IN LIGHT and SPEAKING IN TONGUES, the Heads decided to return to their roots with LITTLE CREATURES. They abandoned the modal, polyrhythmic approach in favor of the two-guitars/4/4 pop structures of yore. While LITTLE CREATURES is the band's most accessible, radio-friendly album, it's not a step backwards by any means, because as they return to the quirky "new wave" style that made them famous, they bring a well-earned sophistication (both harmonic and lyrical) to the table. These advances allow the band to knock out a crop of winners, like the anti-anthem "Road To Nowhere," the semi-mystical (but still damn catchy) "And She Was" and the we've-got-a-baby-now, let's-party-with-him rocker "Stay Up Late." Nothing here is as groundbreaking as BUILDINGS AND FOOD, but it's still the Talking Heads, full of idiosyncratic charm and smart-but-infectious tunes.
This Dualdisc features the full album on the CD side along with bonus CD tracks "And She Was" and "Road to Nowhere," along with an extended mix of "Television Man>" The DVD side presents the music videos for "And She Was" and "Road to Nowhere."

Don't Miss Hello, This disc may be a bit more "song oriented" than the others (whatever THAT means!), but LITTLE CREATURES is still pertinent to the T.H. quiver. The songs cement the Heads expertise at crafting quirky, listenable songs with innovative sounds and rhythms. Another mighty fine 5.1 mix (natch!). Buy them all! Antes y Después de Little Creatures El disco que cambio mi forma de escuchar música. Creo que está todo dicho. La frutilla de la torta: Television Man. Submitted by julio (Montevideo, Uruguay) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo This review is for a different format.
Talking about Little Creatures. A brilliant album and no mistaking! The Talking Heads take a more mainstream route through the musical jungle and invent themselves as a quirky new wave pop band. But the best thing about the whole thing is that it's not a sell-out...not even very slightly!
Tunes like "Road to nowhere" and "And she was" are played on Dodder FM all day long because everyone loves them! But it's still the Talking Heads, and all the better for it.
If this CD is your first trip into T.H. land, congratulations...you have chosen wisely. The other recordings are not the same as this one but you can find out about this in your own sweet time.
