Personnel: Klaus Schulze (organ, keyboards, synthesizer); Haraold Grobkopf (drums). Recorded at Studio P-anne-Paulsen, Frankfurt, Germany. As one of the original members of Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze certainly blazed some important trails on the virgin terrain of early-1970s electronic music--trails that would grow wide enough to accommodate millions of travelers throughout the '80s, '90s, 2000s, and beyond, and encompass everything from New Age and ambient music to drone and chill-out techno. The same commitment to innovation marks Schulze's solo discography, from which 1976's MOONDAWN emerges as one of the highlights. Comprising two long compositions ("Floating" and "Mindphaser"), MOONDAWN is vintage, ambient space music generated by various analog synthesizers (foremost of which is the Moog, the key instrument Schulze used to sculpt his signature sound). Not only is MOONDAWN an important document in the early chapters of electronica, but it stands up remarkably well beside the countless albums it helped inspire. Klaus Schulze is one of the most legendary e-musicians of all time. He is also one of the best and most original. Moondawn is one of the true classics of the genre. For many serious listeners, this was the first and/or most important electronic music purchase. There is good reason for such sentiment -- this is a great album. It is definitely hardcore Berlin school electronica and much more. Like his contemporaries, Schulze added some extra flair to his style. This album has loads of ambient atmospheres accompanying the deep sequences. While the original album is an analog creation, it still holds its own with new millennium digitalia and is uniquely old school. This CD bears comparisons only to Schulze's peers of its era: Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Edgar Froese, T.O.N.T.O.'s Expanding Head Band, and Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Company. ~ Jim Brenholts Klaus Schulze Moondawn Songs | 1. | Floating |

Moondawn
$13.55 Digitally remastered edition of a Schulze masterpiece. The former Tangerine Dream man's flexibility in terms of spirit and final production is shown here in a bizarre electronic winter landscape.
Solo performer: Klaus Schulze (keyboards). Recorded at Studio Panne Paulsen, Frankfurt, Germany in January 1977. Personnel: Klaus Schulze (keyboards, synthesizer). Mirage is one of Klaus Schulze's best albums. It is certainly among the eeriest e-music sets ever. He created it as "an electronic winter landscape dedicated to Hans Dieter Schulze." It has somewhat of a symphonic structure. There are two main pieces: "Velvet Voyage" and "Crystal Lake." Each piece has six separate movements with experimental sounds serving as the recurring themes. The album has cold and icy textures that take listeners to the brink of the winter solstice. The experimental timbres give ...
| | Klaus Schulze X CDs (1978) Bonus Track
Moondawn
$18.05 This re-release of a classic Klaus Schulze album has some little differences from the formerly available CD version. The former CD of "X." was altered in sound (not to everybody's delight) and some tracks were a bit shorter as on the original vinyl album. Therefore, the music used for this re-release was carefully transferred from original old analogue master tapes to digital equipment. ...

Moondawn
$15.39 Personnel includes: Klaus Schulze (keyboards). Liner Note Author: Albrecht Piltz. Recording information: Berlin, Germany (04/1972). Translators: Markus Schurr; Matt Goodluck. Schulze's solo debut is a masterful album featuring some of the most majestic instances of space music ever recorded, all the more remarkable for being recorded without synthesizers. "Satz Gewitter," the first of two tracks and the highlight here, slowly progresses from oscillator static to a series of glowing organ lines, all informed by Schulze's excellent feel for phase effects. ~ John Bush A founding member of such notable Krautrock ensembles as Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, ...

| | Klaus Schulze Timewind CDs (1975) Bonus Track
Moondawn
$18.05 Personnel: Klaus Schulze (vocals, guitar, keyboards, synthesizer, ARP synthesizer, programming, electronics). Liner Note Authors: Albrecht Piltz; Klaus D. Mueller. Recording information: Berliner Weltklany-Studio, Berlin, Germany (03/1975-??/2000); Hambuhren (03/1975-??/2000); Hambuhren, Germany (03/1975-??/2000); Weltklang Studio, Berlin, Germany (03/1975-??/2000). Illustrator: Urs Amann. Photographer: Klaus D. Mueller. Translators: Markus Schurr; Matt Goodluck. Dedicated to Richard Wagner, Timewind is a 60-minute electronic expedition that is broken up into two half-hour tracks, "Bayreuth Return" and "Wahnfried 1883." The first 30 minutes involves icy pulsations and lengthy tonal flights that unnoticeably converge into each other. While one rhythm gains momentum, the other one slowly fades into a bubbly electronic bath of bright swirls and meandering keyboard waves. Similar to early Tangerine Dream, the music here rises and falls above a ...

$13.05 | | Half-Handed Cloud Learning About Your Scale CD (2001)
Moondawn
$12.49 Half-Handed Cloud: John Ringhofer (vocals, various instruments); Mindy Myers (cello); Bob Becker (flute); Chad Carlson (French horn); Jim Tate (double bass); Brandon Buckner, Eric Buckner (drums); Wendy Campbell (background vocals); Eric Smith, Trent Epperson. Personnel: Eric Smith (tuba); Eric B., Brandon Block, Laura Demme (background vocals). Audio Mixer: Brandon Block. Recording information: Corner Room (06/1999-11/1999); David's House (06/1999-11/1999); John's HOuse (06/1999-11/1999); Mckay (06/1999-11/1999). Including 25 songs in 24 minutes used to be the hallmark of intentionally primitive punk albums but, with Learning About Your Scale, Knoxville's Half-Handed Cloud (essentially John Ringhofer with help from various friends) uses the allotted time wisely to craft fully formed, even elaborate pop. Scale would sound like a single continuous piece if Ringhofer had more of an attention span, but he tires quickly of sounds -- a little moog here, a little tuba there, or maybe French horn and rubber band. He does, however, create miniature song cycles within the larger context of the album, complete with phoned-in supporting character dialogue. These mini-plays, which include "Those People We Made? We Love 'Em!" and "Sooty Insides Need Your Cleanliness," together with the broad instrumental palette, make ...
