A meeting of true country music royalty, this collection presents guitar legend Chet Atkins performing in 1949 with, not only Carter Family matriarch Maybelle Carter, but her three lovely daughters--Anita, Helen, and June. (The latter would, ... Full Descriptionof course, go on to marry Johnny Cash). Hearing such early recordings by the fleet-fingered Atkins alone makes this disc a recovered gem, but the Carters serve to make every tune sweeter, particularly when unfurling their high-lonesome harmonies, as on "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and "In the Pines."
This CD features the brilliant Chet Atkins in his formative period in 1949, playing on every track. Nine tracks are guitar solos only; he solos on 18 vocal tracks and sings on 6 (3 in harmony). Great singing from sisters June, Anita and Helen, as well as
Personnel: Chet Atkins (vocals, guitar); Mother Maybelle Carter (vocals, guitar, banjo); Helen Carter, June Carter, Anita Carter (vocals).
Recording information: 1949.

Chet Atkins With The Carter Sisters And Mother Maybelle 1949 music CDs
$15.89 Never one to tread the expected path, Lucinda Williams followed her big breakthrough album, CAR WHEELS ON A GRAVEL ROAD, with a pair of low-key records full of sad, quiet, fragile songs (interrupted by the occasional barn-burner). LIVE @ THE FILLMORE concentrates heavily on those latter two releases, unleashing all the intense, burning emotions that lay at their core, making plain the inherent frisson lurking below the surface of such ostensibly laconic tunes as "Lonely Girls" and "Righteously." Meanwhile, songs that already had plenty of bite in their studio versions are pumped up to an even more electrifying, visceral level (a bold, crunching "Changed the Locks;" the roaring, bluesy "Joy"). The debt ...

Chet Atkins With The Carter Sisters And Mother Maybelle 1949 album
$11.29 Between 1967 and 1973, the 5th Dimension enjoyed 29 U.S. hit singles on the Soul City and Bell labels. This compilation selects all of their Top 40 hits (bar two live tracks) and tops up the running order with five lesser hits. Top-notch material by Jimmy Webb, Laura Nyro, Neil Sedaka and Bacharach & David is rendered as exquisite harmony pop by the vocal group and their producer Bones Howe.
Although "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" (from the musical "Hair") and Nyro's "Wedding Bell Blues" were the chart-toppers, Webb's "Up, Up And Away" is the archetypal 5th Dimension sound. That the songs still ...
