A meeting of true country music royalty, this collection presents guitar legend Chet Atkins performing in 1949 with, not only Carter Family matriarch Maybelle Carter, but her three lovely daughters--Anita, Helen, and June. (The latter would, of course, go on to marry Johnny Cash). Hearing such early recordings by the fleet-fingered Atkins alone makes this disc a recovered gem, but the Carters serve to make every tune sweeter, particularly when unfurling their high-lonesome harmonies, as on "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and "In the Pines."

This CD features the brilliant Chet Atkins in his formative period in 1949, playing on every track. Nine tracks are guitar solos only; he solos on 18 vocal tracks and sings on 6 (3 in harmony). Great singing from sisters June, Anita and Helen, as well as
