Kenny Rogers sure can write 'em, and even those who dismiss the country-pop star's catchy, well-written commercial fare will know half the words to the tunes on 21 NUMBER ONES. This EMI compilation is not the most comprehensive Rogers collection ... Full Descriptionon the market, nor is it necessarily representative of his best work as an artist, but a listen through these 21 tracks will make one thing clear: Rogers's songs are an indelible part of the fabric of American pop culture.
Kicking off the with "The Gambler" (still one of Rogers's most infectious and enjoyable tunes), 21 NUMBER ONES hits all the usual suspects, from the Lionel Richie-penned "Lady," to the twangy feel-good parable "Coward of the County," to the epically romantic "She Believes in Me" to "Lucille," Rogers's breakthrough crossover hit from 1976. There are also plenty of the duets Rogers is famous for, including ones with Sheena Easton, Dolly Parton, Dottie West, and Kim Carnes. Longtime fans will most likely have all of this material, but as a primer on the superstar's biggest hits, it's hard to find a better collection.
Personnel: Kenny Rogers; Dolly Parton, Dottie West, Kim Carnes, Alison Krauss, Ronnie Milsap, Sheena Easton, Billy Dean.
Recording information: 1977 - 2005.

21 Number Ones album
$11.89 By 1993, when Bryan Adams released his first collection of greatest hits, he had enjoyed 12 years in the music business during a span that had seen hot trends like new wave and late '80s hair metal fall by the wayside. Adams managed to stay popular by sticking with an ear-pleasing brand of rock & roll that veered between edgy, bar-band style riff rock to more earnest, American-style roots rock in the tradition of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger.
SO FAR SO GOOD gathers all the essential Adams tracks from his hugely popular '80s albums. This set of melodic rockers, inlcuding "Run to You," "This Time" "Kids Wanna Rock," and "Summer of '69" will be familiar to anyone who was near an FM radio during the era. Adams is a likeable rebel, a tough and tender troubadour singing songs that may not have been taken seriously by rock critics, but which nevertheless had resonance for millions of people around the world. Between ballads like "Heaven" and "Everything I Do (I Do it for You") and the chest-thumping frat-guy rock of "Somebody," this set shows the immense range of one of Canada's most popular musicians.

$9.65 Principally recorded at Bradley Film And Recording Studios, Nashville, Tennessee between June 1, 1955 and Janurary 27, 1960.
Digitally remastered by M.C. Rather & Hollis Flatt (Custom Mastering, Nashville, Tennessee).
Patsy Cline had nothing to do with Sun Records in her lifetime, although she does share a few other similarities with that label's favorite son: both Cline and Elvis Presley began their recording careers in 1955, both became huge pop crossover successes, and, well, both recorded extensively with the Jordanaires. Eerie coincidence? You decide.
Cline actually recorded for Four Star between 1955 and 1960, and while she was already trying her hand at the smooth pop that would make her a star on Decca in the early '60s, she was still enough of a country girl on the tunes heard here to embrace cryin' steel guitars and twangy rhythm riffs on the honky-tonk and rockabilly tunes. Tunes like "Hungry For Love" hold their own with the R&B of the time, while "Walkin' After Midnight," her first hit, motors along with a honky-tonk shuffle that hits alot harder than her own remake a few years later. While Owen Bradley produced both these and Cline's later tracks, these early ones crackle with the sound of a great singer interacting with a great crew of players ...
