Michael Jackson Off The Wall CD  (1979) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition

Final Takeover album
CD $8.49  4.9 stars Top 10 Audio Samples Definitive Album
OFF THE WALL remaster contains previously unreleased demos and commentary by producer Quincy Jones and songwriter Rod Temperton. Recorded in Los Angeles, California between 1978 & 1979. Originally released on Epic (35745). Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California). As the lead singer of the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson had already been labeled a legend at a young age; but OFF THE WALL introduced the world to the adult Michael Jackson, and proved that he was still very much worthy of that label. It was the real beginning for Michael as a solo artist, and opened the doors for his next album THRILLER, which would become the greatest selling album of all time and help foist upon a Jackson a new title: King Of Pop. Under the supervision of Quincy Jones, OFF THE WALL illustrated some of Jackson's most soulful material. The title-track is among the album's smoothest, and introduces his silky feel for the dance-floor. The lively "Working Day And Night" was a teaser for the singles "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You," both of which reached #1 on the ...

THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward. Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed. By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to make the first orchestral-rock album DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, from which "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" are included on this album. Over the next few years the band banged out several gem albums that were full of a distinctive mix of folk-tinged ballads and ambitious prog-rock. Cuts from this period take up a healthy piece of this collection. After a lengthy sabbatical, the Moodies made a comeback in 1981, and with an updated sound (more synth, less Mellotron) the hits began ...

CD $12.29  4.3 stars Top 100 Audio Samples Definitive Album
Dance-pop artist Lady Gaga received plenty of hype for her 2008 summer dance hit, "Just Dance," and her cheeky take on pulsing, electronic dance music. THE FAME, the artist's full-length debut, appeared later in 2008, fulfilling her promise with its sleekly crafted radio and club-ready tunes and glittering, top-shelf production. Like the Scissor Sisters, or mid-2000s efforts by Madonna, THE FAME traffics in retro dancefloor glamour, but Lady Gaga pulls it ...

Nickelback Dark Horse CD  (2008)

Final Takeover album
CD $15.65  3.3 stars Top 100 Audio Samples
Nickleback's sixth album doesn't stake out new ground, but this Canadian post-grunge quartet is known for their allegiance to old-school hard rock values. That allegiance is borne out on 2008's DARK HORSE, a collection of riff-driven rockers and power ballads that thrives on simple chord progressions, distortion-heavy guitars, and lyrics about partying and other carnal delights. The singalong single "Gotta Be Somebody" may flirt with radio-ready pop, but most of DARK HORSE revels in denim-clad, bad boy swagger. It's hard to forget that Nickleback is a mainstream act, however, especially given the potent, high-gloss sound of the album, courtesy of veteran producer Robert "Mutt" Lang. Like Def Leppard, another Lang-produced band, Nickleback's rock is packaged prettily enough for soccer moms, a truth evident ...

Final Takeover CD music
CD $15.18  SALE Top 100
MONUMENTS & MELODIES is an elliptical allusion to the hits and highlights contained within this 2009 retrospective, a double-disc set that's separated into a CD of singles and a CD of rarities. The first disc does its job efficiently, running through all but two of Incubus' Billboard hits--the minor mainstream rock radio hits "Circles" and "Make a Move" are missing, but the non-charting single "Are You In?" is in its place--bookended by two strong new Brendan O'Brien productions, "Black Heart Inertia" and "Midnight Swim." The second disc is devoted primarily to B-sides and other stray non-LP tracks, including an acoustic version of "A Certain Shade of Green," a remix of "Pantomime," and a ham-fisted cover of Prince's "Let's Go Crazy," where they get the riff slightly wrong. For the devoted, this disc does provide a nice service of rounding up the tunes that got away, ...
