Jet City pomp-metallers Queensryche left their denim-jacketed fanbase hanging for close to two decades following the release of 1988's OPERATION: MINDCRIME, a sociopolitical concept album, and the subsequent chart success of its 1990 follow-up, EMPIRE. Frontman Geoff Tate (credited here as "Leader") returns to finish the tale as if the 1990s never happened, offering up a brace of unadulterated '80s metal that, miraculously, sounds in step with where the band left off and at the same time, given early-2000s nostalgia trends, seems ahead of the curve.
Caught between the epic arena-prog of Rush and the grungy grit of Alice in Chains, Tate infuses OPERATION: MINDCRIME II with a passion and craftsmanship that virtually all his former peers have abandoned, leading the charge to bring his own music back to public adoration. To wit, "An Intentional Confrontation" borrows heavily from Roy Thomas Baker's work with Queen, "Murderer?" storms with the fire of a hair-metal Nine Inch Nails, and "I'm American" reaffirms Queensryche's blustery roots. All in all, OPERATION: MINDCRIME II is an excellent, if unexpected, return to form.Kerrang (Magazine) (p.47) - "[T]his most intelligent and inventive of '80s metal albums seems more apposite than ever..." I have not appreciated most of their music since Empire so I am pleased to hear Operation Mindcrime II and their former classic style of metal. This is most definitely different than 'Mindcrime I' but it is more like metal of the past than most albums out now. There are some bad spots to mention though. "Convict" is a waste of 8 seconds and the last couple minutes of "If I Could Change It All" could've been removed, but bringing Dio in to sing with Tate on "The Chase" is great to hear. IMHO it is about 80-85% awesome which is opposite of the last few Queensryche discs. So if you are looking for this to be Mindcrime I, it isn't, but it is great old-style metal. Did we get the same album? This thing doesn't even deserve to be considered the sequel to a great record, much less carry its name and legacy. It's no wonder Tate has the only writing credit on the liner notes, he'd must be the only one willing to take credit for it. The arrangements are horrible, the singing and phrasing is god-awful. This makes Tribe look like a good record. Never mind the fact that the lyrics aren't necessarily what's being sung. The great thing about the original was that each song could stand on it own merits, which definitely cannot be said for anything that I heard on this. Whatever respect and hope I had for Queensr˙che up to this point is now gone. DeGarmo made a wise choice in staying away from this. I think it's time that the band be pronounced officially over. It certainly is for me. Submitted by Robert (St. John's, NL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
Operation Moneycrime They should not have tried to pull this off. Submitted by K.K. (NYC,NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
Great CD this is a good follo up to OMI At first I really didn't liked the CD but I have been Listening to it for the last couple of weeks and I can say this is a very good CD. Songs like I'm American, Hostage, Signs Says Go, Re-arrenged and The Chase are going to become classics I you give them a chance. Everybody is crying because de garmo is not playing in this cd but let me tell you that De Garmo played in Tribe and it is the worst cd to date from queensryche if this is the work that De garmo is doing now thank god he is not playing in queensryche anymore he's lack of creativity and commitment is a problem. Operation: Mindcrime II
$13.49 TRAIN OF THOUGHT continues the legacy of the progressive metal legends, with all the requisite superhuman metallic musicianship that their fans have come to expect. This outing continues in the heavier mode that began with 2002's SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE, reaching even further into darker, personal lyrical themes.
Guitars are the dominant expressive voice here, with keyboards scaled considerably back from the signature Dream Theater sound. Band members Mike Portnoy (drums) and John Petrucci (guitar) continue their do-it-yourself production approach, opting for recording venues on their native Long Island (much of the band's album work has taken place in upstate New ...

Operation: Mindcrime II
$12.65 An intro to Qui, from guitarist/singer Matt Cronk...We, Qui, are Paul Christensen and me, Matt Cronk. We met at a fancy-pants art school in Minneapolis, MN where we were treated as though we were very special creative people. Paul studied old rich people's wedding music (jazz) and I made wise cracks and occasionally operated a guitar. After graduating from said art school, Paul dicked around at a couple other music schools while I played in inconsequential punk bands and worked shitty jobs. During this period, Paul once gave ham to an unsuspecting family eating at Applebees. Giving ham is like mooning someone but spreading the ass cheeks really wide so they get a good look.Anyway, after a whole bunch of stuff happened we moved to Los Angeles, ...
