| | John Denver Rocky Mountain Christmas CD (1975)
Tripod music CDs
$6.09 This 1998 reissue contains 5 bonus tracks (including the previously
unreleased "White Christmas") not included on the original release.
John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the album is an appealing, pretty record, perfect for late nights by the fireside. The 1998 CD reissue adds five bonus tracks: "Jingle Bells," "White Christmas," "The Music is You," "Perhaps Love," and "Dreamland Express." ~ Rodney Batdorf

| | Fleetwood Mac - The Dance DVD (1997)
Tripod songs
$18.95 A 1997 reunion concert of the quintessential members of Fleetwood Mac (Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, John McVie, and Stevie Nicks) to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of their classic, multi-million selling album, "Rumours." Filmed in conjunction with MTV over three nights at a sound stage in Los Angeles, the band performs titles from the album, such as "Don't Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow)," "Gold Dust Woman," "Dreams," and "You Make Loving Fun" as well as such favorites as "Rhiannon," "Say You Love Me," "Sara," "Landslide," ...
| | Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon CD (1973)
Tripod album
$14.99 DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was a benchmark record. It turned the musical world on its ear with a hitherto unseen combination of sounds, and changed things considerably for Pink Floyd. For this project, Pink Floyd resurrected older and unfinished numbers, some of which came from the multitude of soundtracks the band members had previously worked on. The film ZABRISKIE POINT, a study of American materialism from a foreigner's perspective, provided "Us and Them" (originally titled "The Violence Sequence"). Waters rewrote "Breathe" after its appearance on his and avant-garde composer Ron Geesin's score for THE BODY, a surreal medical documentary.
Floyd and their long-time engineer, Alan Parsons, used a multitude of sound effects--from stereophonically projected footsteps and planes flying overhead ("On the Run") to a roomful of ringing clocks ("Time"). Further adding to the record's mystique, barely audible spoken passages were sprinkled throughout--a result of hours interviewing random Abbey Road occupants about their views on insanity, violence, and death. Floyd must have struck a nerve: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON remained on ...
| | Only Doo-Wop Collection You'll Ever Need CDs (2005)
Tripod CD music
$17.05 Don't let the title fool you; after listening to The Only Doo-Wop Collection You'll Ever Need, you'll definitely want more. This is a good starting point for the curious, since all the basics are here in the original hit versions: "The Great Pretender," "Earth Angel," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight," and, thrown in for good measure, a few tracks that even vocal group scholars wouldn't mind hearing again by the ...
| | 'Til Tuesday All About Love CD (1998)
Tripod music CDs
$5.59 The title of Sony Music Special Products' All About Love is a little funny since almost all of 'Til Tuesday's songs were about love, in some fashion or another. Really, the title is just a clever way of making the selection seem a little more careful and considered than it actually is. When it comes down to it, All About Love is like any of its budget-line brethren -- a random sampling of an artist's catalog, containing a selection of hits both big and small ("Voices Carry," "(Believed You Were) Lucky"), plus a number ...
| | Los Lobos Good Morning Aztlan CDs (2002)
Tripod songs
$11.99 Jettisoning the studio bells-and-whistles used by the Mitchell Froom/Tchad Blake production team throughout the '90s, Los Lobos change gears by hooking up with Radiohead/XTC producer John Leckie on GOOD MORNING AZTLAN, the band's 10th full-length album. Named for the mythical birthplace of the Aztecs, this 12-pack of songs draws deeply from Los Lobos' unique mix of rock, R&B, blues, and Mexican folk music. With David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas cranking up their guitars, songs like the title cut and the rumbling shuffle "Done Gone Blue" juice up the proceedings alongside mellower fare like the Curtis Mayfield-flavored soul of "The Word" and the delicate Latin flavors of "Malaque."
Ever aware of their roots in East L.A., these first-generation Mexican Americans have always made a point of writing about those who've come to this country to achieve the American dream. "Tony & Maria" finds the band revisiting characters first written about on 1985'S HOW WILL THE WOLF SURVIVE, only to find these immigrants facing a life of fading hope. Other high points find saxman Steve Berlin blasting through the gritty funk-rock "Get To This," Quetzal singer Martha Gonzalez's harmonies gilding the soulful "Hearts Of Stone," and all of Los Lobos sizzling on the cumbia "Maria Christina."

| | Ana Caram Hollywood Rio CD (2004)
Tripod CD music
$15.59 A superior Brazilian jazz singer, Ana Caram takes a slight detour on this CD, stretching her repertoire while mostly still performing in a style influenced by bossa nova. One does not get to hear such songs as "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head," "Smile," and "As Time Goes By" in a bossa nova setting that often. Also unusual is that Michel Freidenson plays all of the instruments other than the reeds (which are performed by Lawrence Feldman), and most of his electronic instruments sound real enough not to be an issue. The focus throughout is on Caram's lovely voice and she excels on this material, showing that it really is not what you sing but how you sing it. Recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
For lovers of life and music everywhere, here comes a disc to define the chart sweeping Rio Lounge considered so vogue today. Hollywood Rio is the authentic connection between an ardent Ipanema sun and lush, opulent Beverly Hills palm trees. Ana Caram’s silky voice takes ...
