Considerably more homespun than the pair's subsequent CARDIFFIANS album, which featured a cast of stellar musicians including Roy Nathanson and Marc Ribot, THE PRINCE OF WALES, originally released in 1989, mostly consists of guitarist Ian Devine and the Young Marble Giants' singer Alison Statton in a sparse setting that highlights Statton's characteristically unaffected vocals and Devine's charmingly simple songs. Highlights include the duo's cover of New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle," and the folky, insightful "Never Coming Back."
