On 2006's PRECIOUS MEMORIES, country superstar Alan Jackson ventures into gospel territory, offering up a set of warm and inviting faith-themed songs. These spare tracks feature no percussion and rely almost solely on piano and acoustic guitar, ... Full Descriptionallowing the focus to remain on Jackson's resonant vocals and the songs' devoutly Christian lyrics. Although praising Jesus is clearly the core of this album, the beautifully minimalist renderings of spiritual classics are so soothing and pleasant that the disc's appeal is sure to extend to fans of Jackson's secular music, particularly on "Softly and Tenderly," which is enhanced by gentle organ lines, and "I'll Fly Away," here given a light, jaunty bluegrass feel. The resulting atmosphere evokes images of the Georgia-born singer/guitarist sitting in on a friendly, open-air church service, leading a sing-along of traditional numbers such as "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You."
Alan Jackson: Alan Jackson (vocals, guitar); Brent Mason (acoustic guitar); Gary Prim (piano, organ); Keith Stegall (piano); John Wesley Ryles, Melodie Crittenden (background vocals).Rolling Stone (p.94) - "Alan Jackson sings in a rich, restrained baritone that helps give even his rowdier songs a touch of classic-country elegance. That voice is at its most sensibly sturdy on PRECIOUS MEMORIES..." Entertainment Weekly (p.103) - "The delivery of these old church songs is solemn, the accompaniment sparse, and the historical value real..." -- Grade: B+ No Depression (p.132) - "The arrangements rarely extend beyond stately solo piano or guitar, the harmonies sound homespun and familial, and Jackson's vocal subtlety has a self-effacing humility in the face of a higher power." Precious Memories album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close ...
| | Alan Jackson What I Do CD (2004)
Precious Memories CD music
$7.79 Ever since he first emerged in the late 1980s as a tradition-conscious alternative to the country-crossover "hat acts" overrunning Nashville, singer/songwriter Alan Jackson has turned out remarkably consistent records full of solid, often self-penned tunes that connect with both old-school country fans and those with more mainstream tastes. Accordingly, WHAT I DO contains no rock/pop trappings, "modern" production touches, or gimmicky songs. Rather, it's an album of direct, heartfelt sentiments expressed with equal amounts of emotional honesty and tasteful understatement.
"Strong Enough" and the aptly titled "Burnin' the Honky Tonks Down" have the classic honky-tonk flavor that makes Jackson's roots in Merle Haggard-style '60s country plain. The heartbreaking, expertly crafted "Monday Morning ...

| | Alan Jackson Like Red On A Rose CD (2006)
Precious Memories songs
$9.59 Although LIKE RED ON A ROSE was produced by Alison Krauss, it's not the traditional bluegrass record one might expect. Instead, the producer and artist have done something far more unexpected: LIKE RED ON A ROSE is an album of cool and occasionally near-jazzy ballads that recall k.d. lang's SHADOWLAND, Ray Price's early 1970s pop singles, and Patsy Cline's more orchestral sides. Intended as a concept album about Jackson's marriage (although the only song ...
| | Vince Gill These Days CDs (2006) Digipak
Precious Memories album
$22.09 Not since Prince released the three-hour, three-CD set EMANCIPATION in 1996 or the Magnetic Fields took a similar number of discs for the sprawling 69 LOVE SONGS in 1999 has an artist attempted something as expansive as Vince Gill's THESE DAYS. A four-disc box set of all new material, nearly all of it Gill originals, THESE DAYS is possibly the widest-ranging country album of the modern era. The four discs are thematically and stylistically arranged. Disc one, WORKIN' ON A BIG CHILL, is a 1960s-flavored rock-and-roll album that recalls Bob Dylan's late '60s work with the Band and features Bonnie Bramlett's vocals on several songs. Disc two, THE REASON WHY, is a modern pop record in the style of Shania Twain's international releases, with several duet partners including Sheryl Crow and Leann Rimes. Disc three, SOME THINGS NEVER GET OLD, is straight honky-tonk in the Ray ...

Precious Memories songs
$13.55 CARRYING ON is the fourth album by Ralph Stanley II, son of bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley. Though he adds a dash of contemporary country flavor and the gloss of modern production, Stanley II's main objective is--as the album's title suggests--to carry on the mountain roots music his father helped pioneer in the Stanley Brothers. Stanley II's dedication to bearing the family torch is clear by his choice of songs here, which includes the Stanley Brothers' "Map of God's Highway" and the Carter Family's "Single Girl."
From Stanley II's own tunes--"You Will Never Be Mine" and "I Am the Way I Am," among them--it is clear his skill as a songwriter matches his talents as a guitarist and vocalist. A crack team of musicians ...
