| | Toilet Boys Early Years CD (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
In Search Of Sunrise, Vol. 5: Los Angeles songs
$13.35 For all the inspiring, important, and enduring music that was spawned during the 1990s, that decade will quite likely be remembered as the most humorless, self-doubting, no-fun decade in the entire history of rock & roll. Be that as it may, Generation X'ers who feel disturbed by their downbeat legacy can still wipe their grungy brows with relief thanks to that rare, fun-loving band like the Toilet Boys. The Early Years is a collection unearthing some of the New Yorkers' earliest studio and live recordings circa 1996 and 1997; a time when their lineup was still relatively in flux (save for ever-present and ubiquitous androgynous leader, Miss Guy), but the group was already shocking audiences across the five boroughs with their combustible s shows and some memorable glam rock nuggets. Their music was still very much in flux, too, though: with live numbers running the gamut from the campy cabaret of the "Toilet Boys Theme," to the furious, Bad Brains-like hardcore of "Pist"; while studio offerings included the likes of "Paul Stanley (Was a Lady)" (pure punk rock madness culminating in the riff from Kiss' "Strutter"), the innuendo-fest of "Mail ...

| | Aquabats Charge!! CD (2005)
In Search Of Sunrise, Vol. 5: Los Angeles CD music
$11.49 The band's most cohesive album to date, blends quirky new wave melodie with the band's hometown signature punk rock sound, concreted with their uniquely sarcastic humor.
Their fanatical cadre will love that Charge!! ends the Aquabats' nearly six-year album drought. But the combo's hiatus has also refocused its musical and ideological attack. Intact are the pop references, zany in-jokes, and Batman villain fetishism. And the album has more exclamation points per syllable than the average lad's mag cover. (One song is simply called "Waterslides!") But Charge!! is much more rewarding musically. It doesn't loiter awkwardly between punk, pop, ska, and broad humor -- it keeps the pressure on with a catchy guitar- and keyboard-driven blend of anthemic choruses and appropriately squawky elements. Enjoyment ...
| | Mott The Hoople Mott CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
In Search Of Sunrise, Vol. 5: Los Angeles music CDs
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Larry Keyes (CBS Records Studio, New York, New York).
Mott The Hoople are often associated with the '70s glam movement, but their only real connection to that style was their involvement with David Bowie. In fact, the band was much more closely tied to the post-folkie work of Bob Dylan. Singer Ian Hunter had his British version of ...
