Heliocentric Worlds Volumes 1 & 2 album
$15.65 Vibraphonist Gary Burton's classic quartet of the late `60s, consisting of Burton and guitarist Larry Coryell (later, Pat Metheny), bassist Steve Swallow, and drummer Roy Haynes, are often credited with laying the groundwork for the aggressive jazz-rock fusions of the `70s. Nearly four decades on from their, initial, pioneering efforts, original quartet members and jazz legends Burton, ...
| | Grover Washington, Jr A Secret Place CD (1976) Remastered; Digipak
Heliocentric Worlds Volumes 1 & 2 CD music
$9.58 A SECRET PLACE was produced by Creed Taylor and issued on his Kudu imprint, while the versatile David Matthews arranged the horn section. This lineup may not be surprising, but the scope of the recording is. Washington could have gone the easy route and followed up his R&B chart success with a series of uptempo, rousing tracks that leaned heavier on funk--in the style of the title tracks of both his previous albums, 1974's MISTER MAGIC and 1975's FEEL SO GOOD. But he went in a different direction, at least partially. The bottom line on A SECRET ...

| | Tony Bennett Who Can I Turn To CD (1964)
Heliocentric Worlds Volumes 1 & 2 album
$6.09 This is part of Columbia Records' Tony Bennett Master series.
1964's follow-up to the seminal I WANNA BE AROUND, WHO CAN I TURN TO continues the established Bennett tradition of mixing a few choice standards with some little-known songs to delight the cogniscenti plus a show-stopping hit to tie it all together. Deliciously medium-slow versions of "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams" and "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea" fill the the first category easily. Then there are songs like Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh's "I Walk A Little Faster," Fran Landesman and Tommy Wolfæs "Listen, Little Girl," the debut of Bill Evans' "Waltz For Debby" with Gene Lees' lyrics, an excerpt from Mel Torme's CALIFORNIA SUITE--all these serve to mark this release as an unusual one in the Bennett canon. You know the singer agrees, since this is another in the Tony Bennett Master Series hand-picked by Bennett himself.
Recorded at CBS 30th Street Studios, New York between August and October 1964. Originally released as Columbia Records (CL 2285). Includes original release liner notes by Richard Maltby, Jr.
Reissue producer: Didier C. Deutsch.
Personnel: Tony Bennett (vocals); George Siravo (conductor); ...
