Soft Lights And Sweet Music
$13.00 Vijay Iyer has captured the ears of critics and listeners like only a handful of the most elite jazz pianists since McCoy Tyner, Cecil Taylor, or Misha Mengelberg initially burst onto the scene. There's no other single player who sounds even remotely like him, few who can match his inventive and whimsical sense of play or seriousness, and absolutely nobody who presents the stunning, highly intelligent music he dishes out. With HISTORICTY, he touches on many different levels of acumen, influenced by contemporary alternative rock, Motown, show tunes, pop fusion, the early creative music of the '70s, and ethnic strains. Iyer also revisits two of his older compositions, ...

Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24 karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.
As British bands like Yes, ELP, and Genesis extended the borders of rock & roll, John McLaughlin had seized the opportunity to do the same with jazz. The first stars of the jazz/rock fusion camp, the Mahavishnu Orchestra played sellout concerts, sold records in quantities previously unheard of by jazz musicians, and captured a crossover audience of forward-looking jazz devotees and progressive rock fans.
The music on THE INNER MOUNTING FLAME is incendiary and highly improvisational. Well-conceived unison melodic passages structure each tune, and McLaughlin and company play like the virtuosos they are throughout. "The Noonward Race" features a bluesy, yet harmonically dissonant solo from McLaughlin, and the frenetic drumming of ...

Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1996, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
BUT BEAUTIFUL's blend of Evans's introspective piano and Getz's velvety tenor saxophone, backed by Evans's long-term trio members, bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell, results in a romantic, exuberant take on the material. The album was recorded live at the Laren International Jazz Festival in Holland and Jazz Middelheim in Belgium during the summer of 1974, where the infrequent collaborators created a magical sound. Especially radiant are the ballads, ...

| | Cat Stevens Numbers CD (1975) Remastered
Soft Lights And Sweet Music
$7.75 Subtitled "A Pythagorean Theory Tale," Stevens' follow-up to the relatively conventional BUDDHA AND THE CHOCOLATE BOX is a semi-concept album with a sort of science fiction theme. The songs are set on the faraway planet Polygor, which "existed to give numbers to the universe," and they are sung from the point of prominent inhabitants of the planet, including the wise and deep-thinking old Novim ("Novim's Nightmare") and cranky emperor Monad ("Monad's Anthem"). The story line isn't easy to follow, but the songs themselves are in Steven's signature folkie pop mode, and the one non-story song, "Banapple Gas" (a distant relative of Donovan's "Mellow Yellow") is as catchy as anything in his catalogue.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
