Brought up in the Baptist church, David started playing piano and singing at age five. He studied clasical piano and organ until his early teens. Once he discovered the keyboard styles of Ramsey Lewis and the vocal stylings of Stevie Wonder, jazz and R&B became his primary focus. Having the ability to both play keyboards and sing created many job opportunities for David. He did vocal and instrumental sessions for Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson and worked as a keyboardist for Anita Baker, Jeffery Osborne, Rita Coolege and many more. Between touring and intermittant recording sessions, Swanson worked in jazz clubs throughout Asia and Europe. His vocals shifted to more standard jazz yet retaining his silky like Stevie Wonder smoothness.
