| | Bob Marley No Sympathy CD Bob Marley Discography of CDs
The tracks Bob Marley and the Wailers cut with legendary reggae producer Lee Perry in Jamaica in the late 1960s and early '70s are sadly less well-known than the group's later discography. However, Marley fans have cause for celebration, as this set packs 16 of the reggae legend's early songs into one convenient package. This music offers such a unique stylistic blend of reggae's rock-steady rhythm and slinkier R&B elements that it still sounds fresh some 30 years after its creation. Marley's songwriting is as strong as ever, while on "Soul Rebel," "Try Me," and "My Cup," his textured, soulful voice infuses the songs with characteristic passion, delivering hook-filled melodic lines over irresistibly groovy beats.
Late 60s and early 70s Marley and the Wailers tracks produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry. Tougher and more organic than their later Island albums. Bob Marley No Sympathy Songs No Sympathy Review

No Sympathy
$12.55 Madness never disappeared but they faded away, spending years playing summer festivals and other oldies venues befitting an act specializing in nostalgia, an impression that their 2005 covers album did nothing to assuage. All this makes this 2009 release--the band's first album of original material in ten years--to feel fully realized, even surprising. The element of surprise is not in the music, which is firmly within the 2-Tone tradition they laid down in the early '80s, but rather that they've found a way to deepen their nutty sound, to offer nothing less than a mature, middle-aged spin on 2-Tone. This album is about London, and is steeped in classic British pop, using the Kinks as ground zero for a series of wry, keenly observed pop songs about the people ...

No Sympathy
$8.75 This is a Hyper CD, which contains regular audio tracks and also provides a
A key element of the late-1970s/early-'80s UK ska revival, the English Beat nevertheless always had more pop smarts and a wider stylistic palette than compatriots like the Specials and the Selecter. As BEAT THIS! THE BEST OF THE ENGLISH BEAT makes clear, ska wound up being just one color in the band's musical paint box.
Early on, the Beat showed a knack for re-imagining '60s pop tunes in patented two-tone style (Smokey Robinson's "Tears of a Clown," Andy Williams's "Can't Get Used to Losing You"). "Click Click" reveals the influence of punk, while "Doors of Your Heart" shows the group's skill with a straight reggae groove. The Motown-flavored chug of "Sole Salvation" and the jangly pop of "Save It for Later" show how the band was maturing towards the end of their tether, Dave Wakeling's lyrics growing ever more literate and Elvis Costello-esque as the music expanded. Unfortunately, ...
| | Bob Marley Catch A Fire: Deluxe Edition CDs (1973) Remastered; Deluxe Edition
No Sympathy
$19.59 It is nearly impossible to imagine a time when reggae was not part of the cultural currency. Though Bob Marley and the Wailers cannot be said to have invented the style, they certainly brought it to the world stage, and this album was the torch that lit the way. CATCH A FIRE hit with the force of a revelation when it was released in 1973, and though Chris Blackwell tailored its sound with a rock audience in mind, the album was still unlike anything that had ever come down the pike. Ironically, even given its relatively full production and electric guitar solos, CATCH A FIRE sounds more organic and rootsy than any of the Wailers' subsequent releases.
While the percolating rhythms and burbling bass lines of the Barrett brothers, and the sweet, impeccable harmonies of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer soothe and move, CATCH A FIRE also introduces the ...
