An improvement over 1996's TIME FLIES best-of, 2006's GREATEST HITS brings together 21 tracks from 1980s staples Huey Lewis and the News. Anyone who drew air in the '80s, and was within 30 miles of a radio, will recognize the lion's share of tracks here. Whether it be the throwback backbeat of "Heart of Rock & Roll," the sunny, doo-wop-inspired "If This Is It," or the bobbling, new wave groove of "I Want A New Drug," Lewis's breezy brand of commercial pop is long on hooks that sink in and won't let go. The band was reviled by rock fans as sanitized, mainstream pap, but GREATEST HITS, with its stream of smash hits, is an excellent argument for Lewis's staying power.

Excellent collection Very nice effort with this compilation, all the big hits from this band are here, staples from the albums Picture This, Sports, Fore, Small World, Hard at Play and some 90's music dedicated to music greats like Curtis Mayfield. Also Huey's duet w/ Gwyneth Paltrow. Every song is enjoyable, good liner notes from Huey Lewis and comedian Jimmy Kimmel. Listen to the music and relive the 80's!!!!! Greatest Hits album
$10.85 THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward.
Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed.
By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to make the first orchestral-rock album DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, from which "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" are included on this album.
Over the next few years the band banged out several gem albums that were full of a distinctive mix of folk-tinged ballads and ambitious prog-rock. Cuts from this period take up a healthy piece ...
| | Johnny Otis 1945-1947 CD (2002)
Greatest Hits CD music
$18.05 Growing up among Afro-Americans in Berkeley, CA, Greek-American Johnny Otis (born John Veliotes) always identified strongly with people of color. Before he had attained the age of 20 he was gigging with black jazz bands throughout the Southwest, and eventually organized an ensemble deliberately patterned after Count Basie's orchestra. This highly charged album of historical musical artifacts documents the very beginning of Johnny Otis' recording career. With one apparently unobtainable exception, the Classics Blues & Rhythm Series has assembled all of Otis' Excelsior recordings, made in Los Angeles between 1945 and 1947. This provides background and context for his more well-known Savoy material, and indeed for everything this amazing person accomplished during the second half of the 20th century. Otis' first act as a recording bandleader was to borrow Jimmy Rushing from Count Basie! Rushing sounds right at home with this group, which included tenor saxophonist Paul Quinichette, pianist Bill Doggett, and bassist Curtis Counce. During "Preston's Love Mansion," as Doggett quotes the famous riff from Dizzy Gillespie's "Salt Peanuts," the band hollers "Johnny Otis!" instead. And well they might, ...

| | Very Best Of The Eagles CDs (1994) Remastered; Digipak
Greatest Hits songs
$20.25 THE VERY BEST OF includes a 46-page booklet with pictures and track information.
"Hole In The World" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
This 1994 greatest hits package (released in anticipation of the band's wildly successful reunion tour and album) supplants THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971-1975. It adds seven songs, but unfortunately deletes "Already Gone," one of their best rockers.
What's most interesting about THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES - apart from the presence of obviously classic songs like "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California" - is that it demonstrates that the band's esthetic was fully formed from day one. Despite the fact that the songs here span nearly a decade, listening to them back to back you could almost believe they were the product of one marathon recording session.
The Eagles' founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey were forthright in their desire to bring then-emerging country rock to new heights of commercial success. Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, they learned from their observations of the scene around them, and subsequently took their music to the top of the charts. They stayed there throughout the '70s, becoming synonymous with the sound of Southern California rock.
The band's first hit was with a song by Jackson Browne, and their first album also included a cover of "Ol' 55" by Tom Waits, but the bulk ...
| | Very Best Of Jackson Browne CDs (2004) Remastered; Digipak
Greatest Hits album
$21.15 Recorded between 1972 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Dave Marsh.
Before this double-disc dose of Jackson Browne's best came along, the influential troubadour's most extensive career summary was the 15-song THE NEXT VOICE YOU HEAR. This truly definitive anthology contains just about everything on that disc and plenty more. Browne helped define the 1970s singer/songwriter idiom, and that process is carefully documented here, as on the precociously world-weary "These Days" and the soulful, Van Morrison-like "Doctor My Eyes." The collection follows Browne through the years, as he toughens up his sound with more of a rock edge ("Running on Empty," "Boulevard") and adds a sociopolitical edge to his lyrics ("Lives in the Balance," "I am a Patriot"). Through it all, Jackson's humanity and humility, not to mention his lyrical song-craft, shine wi

| | Alexis Korner Kornerstoned: Anthology 1958-1983 CD (2006) (Import) United Kingdom
Greatest Hits CD music
$24.79 While MUSICALLY RICH...AND FAMOUS documents the second half of British blues godfather Alexis Korner's career, KORNERSTONED adopts a more comprehensive approach, following the pioneering singer/guitarist from the very beginning of his musical life, all the way through every subsequent phase of his development. So we get not only his mid-1960s work with burgeoning blues-rock giants like Paul Rodgers and Steve Marriott, but also his `50s skiffle recordings (basically the British version of jug-band music) with the Ken ...
| | Jan & Dean All The Hits-From Surf City To Drag City CDs (1996)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$17.79 Digitally remastered by Kevin Reeves (April 1996, Capitol Recording Studios, Hollywood, California).
Jan & Dean are the quintessential Californian pop duo of the early 1960s; versed in surfing and hot-rod culture, they created music that provided a soundtrack for summertime fun. ALL THE HITS - FROM SURF CITY TO DRAG CITY lives up to its name, including Jan & Dean's numerous charting singles, as well as some rare outtakes and radio spots. These songs are breezy, lightweight, and well produced, and provide a nice setting for studio professionals such as Hal Blaine and Glen Campbell to work their magic. The sonic complexity of Jan Berry's productions was a serious influence on the young Brian ...
