Also available in a 3-pack with FACE THE MUSIC and DISCOVERY. 1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff ... Full DescriptionLynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water mark.

A New World Record - Expanded Edition Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Sonic Heaven There is no doubt that music like this will never be made again. And on this expanded collection, the extra tracks don't spoil the flow of the original album, and actually enhance the listening experience. The remastering is perfect, great care was taken and you can detect the subtle differences and enriched sonics between the initial CD release and this remastered edition. The only gripe is the lyric sheet has not been included from the original vinyl and CD releases. Trademark stuff Have only listened to this album a few bezillion times....and it is classic ELO stuff. Shangri-La is one of their best ever and don't mind the short little Above the Clouds effort. Great stuff. Submitted by Cameron (Melbourne, Australia) Was This A New World Record - Expanded Edition Music Review Helpful? Yes No

A must for introduction to ELO Every song on this Re-mastered CD is a gem. Jeff Lynne created a Hall of Fame album with five hit songs on the Billboard charts and lives up to its name as "A New World Record". Surrender a bonus track became a UK hit and can be considred a sixth hit. This is a Must HAVE!!
