The debut album from the German dance group that dared to use a "synchrovoice" sample of Robert DeNiro saying The Lord's Prayer throughout the track "Vater Unser"! The synchro voice of De Niro is used here again to generate comfortable shivers; additional German synchrovoices of the following actors: Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Nicolas Cage and John Travolta.

Synthesizer master Jarre built an entire career around the renown he achieved through this 1978 recording. Performed entirely on synthesizers, EQUINOXE consists of a single piece divided up into eight movements. Clearly influenced by the more melodic side of mid-period Tangerine Dream and Vangelis, Jarre filled this album with gauzy, atmospheric synth textures marked by an inviting, impressionistic feel.
The cinematic vistas evoked by Jarre's dreamy analog synthscapes are also undoubtedly influenced by his father, famed film composer Maurice Jarre. EQUINOXE takes a decided turn towards the mainstream when the bouncy, sequenced rhythms kick in, but the moodier sections are intoxicating, worthy of Klaus Schulze at his best.
Recorded at Jean-Michel Jarre's studio, Paris, France from January to August, 1978.

On THE SCIENCE OF THINGS, Bush manages to provide a link to the sound of the band's previous albums without stagnating in a post-grunge mire of hard-rock cliches. Old-school fans needn't worry, Bush's trademark style is well represented here, as on the grinding, piledriver riffs of "English Fire" and that vaunted, Nirvana-derived loud-soft-loud dynamic shift on the alternately foreboding and explosive "Dead Meat."
There's a distinct musical progression here as well, though. With its looped-sounding drum track, "The Chemicals Between Us" nods to electronica production values. "Letting the Cables Sleep" and "40 Miles From the Sun" are effectively pensive ballads that provide a valuable respite from the band's unrelenting sonic attack, though the songs' underlying darkness keeps them from seeming anomalous. If any further doubts lingered about Bush's refusal to be pigeonholed, there's even a guest vocal turn from No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani.
