| | As I Lay Dying Long March CD As I Lay Dying Discography of CDs
(8 Customer Reviews)
This 22-track compilation traces the sonic development of Christian metalcore band As I Lay Dying. A LONG MARCH incorporates early tracks from the band's first year of existence, an EP recorded one year later in 2002, and new versions of tracks ... Full Descriptionfrom that EP specifically rerecorded for this release. While the band sounds tougher, and has clearly benefited from the increased production values provided by its success, AILD were blistering and ferocious from day one, as evidenced by the equally searing original and revamped versions of tracks like "Illusions," "Forever," and "Reinvention."
While ostensibly a Christian band, the indecipherably throaty vocals combined with the band's dubious presence on the very un-sanctified Metal Blade label, make any concessions to faith or devotion somewhat irrelevant. AILD play brutal, exacting metal full of rage and passion that will appeal to metal heads of all stripes whether they're heading north or south come Judgment Day. | | As I Lay Dying Shadows Are Security CD (2005)
Long March CD music
$11.39 Formed in Southern California and forged on the road, As I Lay Dying appeared as prominent players in a new wave of American metal. Not content to draw upon a single influence, the band pulls from early thrash, the Gothenburg (Sweden) style of death metal, and hardcore. What sets them apart from other bands of the metalcore genre is their dynamic song structure. Where they could get away with simple verse/chorus/verse templates, SHADOWS ARE SECURITY constantly shakes things up with new sounds and textures. Dual guitars carry the ...

| | Balash, Tim & The Chrome Magpies Hungover On Judgement Day CD (2007)
Long March CD music
$7.35 If you’ve seen Tim Balash and the Chrome Magpies under the stage lights, you don’t need any reminders of how much, for what’s ostensibly a country band, they completely rock. Not in the slow buildup way, like Gram Parsons or something more pretentious. It’s more like a Baptist minister’s controlled explosion. Beauty on the edge of danger. Mop-headed Balash’s high voice is key, and he’s a fine songwriter.-Fish Griwkowsky, The Edmonton SunBalash’s debut album, Hungover On Judgement Day, is another tribute to Edmonton’s independent rock scene. Whether he’s rocking out with a bluesy guitar lead on ‘Money is the Blood’ or being cheeky with the country-rock of ‘It’s Hard to Look for Work When You Don’t Get Up Til Noon’, the quality of Balash’s songwriting is undeniable. Tim Balash isn’t the kind of songwriter who gets stuck in a rut. He throws more musical change-ups than most; and a Chrome Magpie show sees him moving from electric to acoustic guitar for the many different styles he chooses to work in.As for his backing band, the Chrome Magpies feature some of the most recognizable names on the Edmonton music scene; Brent Oliver, founder of the city’s Green Pepper Records label, offers his services on the Hammond, especially effective on the album’s title track, which ...
