If you've got a four-hour drive down the Pacific Coast Highway ahead of you, and you're running low on appropriate tunes, then the Om label has come to your rescue with this well-packed, budget-priced, three-disc set of sunny, summertime club grooves. Each disc is a continuous DJ mix featuring the talents of one of three mixologists: Groove Junkies on disc one, Chuck Love on disc two, and DJ Fluid on disc three. Although the house-heavy tracks do tend to run together a bit about halfway through the program, none of them is less than pleasant, and a few jump out at you with particular force. Among the latter are a powerful gospel number titled "He Is" by a group with the rather strange name Copyright, Micky More's "Victory Dance" (which features some very jazzy flute playing and some wonderfully wanky wah-wah guitar), Iz & Diz's saucy "Magnificent," and Samantha James '80s-flavored and swooningly hooky "Rise." As she does on every compilation on which she appears, Colette steals the show with her rendition of "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" (presented here in a new mix by Chuck Love). If you're not going to be driving down the PCH anytime soon, then you can put any one of these discs on repeat and close your eyes and pretend. Highly recommended. ~ Rick Anderson

Om Summer Sessions songs
$13.69 In keeping with the lottery-themed title and presentation of Chingy's second solo album, Powerballin', 49 Productions mobilized a bizarre quasi-reissue of Without Warning's self-titled album from 2000, and threw in a DVD including a previously unreleased video. Without Warning was Chingy's pre-fame group, and the tracks here (most of Without Warning, along with a couple other cuts) indicate that his MCing wasn't in need of many refinements when he inked his deal with Capitol. His two partners in the group are competent, but he's the obvious star; his voice and flow are both immediately traceable. Devoted fans will want to snap this up, especially so if they prefer Chingy in non-pop mode. (The Steve West ad that appears in the inner sleeve of the package deserves an award of some sort: "The debut solo release featuring 19 tracks of real music." If that's not a selling point, what is?) ~ Andy Kellman
Chingy, Mysphit, and MGD made up the group Without Warning. Chingy aka H Thugs toured and performed within various cities in the USA prior to signing with major label Capitol Records in 2003. 49 Productions an independent label discovered Howard Bailey (Chingy) as a young rapper on the 4900 block of Beacon Ave a St Louis North side neighborhood Walnut Park. His talent and potential as a world renowned Hip Hop artist was noticed instantly by CEO 49 Productions Ronald Gavin (Mook Dollars).Immediately from that point 49 productions produced a full length CD and music video on Chingy and the group Without Warning. The ...
