On his initial solo outing as James Figurine, electronica artist Jimmy Tamborello--also known as Dntel, one half of the Postal Service, and one third of Figurine--unveils a collection of minimalist, groove-centric synth-pop tunes. MISTAKE, Tamborello's ... Full Descriptionfirst major undertaking since the Postal Service's hugely popular GIVE UP, finds him scaling back the former album's catchy melodies in favor a more rhythmic, dance-floor-oriented sound, as revealed on the pulsing, cell-phoned-themed "55566688833." While numerous guests turn up, including Jenny Lewis, the record's standout track, "All the Way to China," features the easy-going vocals of Erlend Oye (Kings of Convenience), resulting in a sprightly tune that wouldn't sound out of place on one of Oye's own solo releases. Although it doesn't reach the great heights of Tamborello's Postal Service work, MISTAKE succeeds in mining an enjoyably grounded electro-vein.
Personnel include: Erlend Oye (vocals); John Tejada (guitar, sound effects).
Additional personnel: Sonya Westcott, Jenny Lewis (vocals).
CMJ (p.4) - "The record is Tamborello's most ambient, as he manipulates the ethereal voices of his guest vocalists so their glassy tones are gracefully woven into the mix..." Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake album
$10.19 Although not quite as stellar as its predecessor, 1979's 'DUTY NOW FOR THE FUTURE' is a solid second release by those loveable spuds from Ohio. With hindsight, DUTY helped bridge the gap between the quirky weirdness of their debut and their more accessible third album, FREEDOM OF CHOICE, which would prove to be their breakthrough commercial success (achieving gold status and spawning the classic new wave hit "Whip It"). Replacing Brian Eno as producer is another Bowie disciple, Ken Scott (ZIGGY STARDUST, HUNKY DORY), who helps guide the band towards ...

Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake music CDs
$12.19 For a band from Brooklyn, the Essex Green has proved quite adept at blending the short and snappy, melancholy pop of the Hollies and Searchers with the subdued, sophisticated flair of the Left Bank, and topping it off with charming male-female vocal harmonies that echo pre-L.A. Fleetwood Mac (think MYSTERY TO ME), and the Mamas & the Papas. But ...

Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake songs
$8.15 On its 2006 album, RETURN TO COOKIE MOUNTAIN, the Brooklyn-based post-punk group TV on the Radio manages that rare feat of becoming more adventurous and accessible at the same time. While this record isn't a major departure from its eclectic predecessor (the lauded DESPERATE YOUTH, BLOODY THIRSTY BABES), it is notably more cohesive, and even boasts a guest appearance by David Bowie, who slinks into backing vocals on the R&B-tinged "Province." By combining unpolished loops and stuttering beats with shoegazing guitar textures, the ensemble creates an utterly unique sound, particularly when the deep, expressive voice of Tunde Adebimpe and the falsetto singing of Kyp Malone fall into harmony, ...
