| Hank Williams Unreleased Recordings CDs (2008) Box Set
SCJ01 music CDs
$31.98 As important as any country music release in the digital era, HANK WILLIAMS: THE UNRELEASED RECORDINGS finds Williams delivering some of the most impactful performances of his career. Captured during his artistic zenith in 1951 for the Mother's Best Flour Company, these sessions' acetates were forgotten until the 1970s. Eventually Williams's daughter Jett won a protracted legal battle and partnered with Time Life for their release. Mastered without the severe compression that bedeviled his most famous studio recordings, the 143 tracks foreground Williams's expressive vocal delivery as it seesaws between a yearning rustic croon and shiv-sharp, reedy wail. A loose Hank jokes with his studio band and even tells stories about some of the songs as he introduces them. Touching upon his classics like "Cold, Cold Heart," "Hey, Good Lookin'," and "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love with You)," the bulk of the three discs comprises songs that pop up nowhere ...
| | Queen The Cosmos Rocks CD (2008)
SCJ01 songs
$11.19 Former Bad Company belter Paul Rodgers's bluesy, testosterone-heavy style might seem an odd replacement for late Queen singer Freddie Mercury's operatic art-rock acrobatics, but his collaboration with Queen's guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor has revitalized all three British rock stalwarts. The team-up began with a tour focused on classic Queen material, but for their first album of new material, the trio wisely avoids trying to recreate the Queen of yore; the album is credited separately to Queen and Paul Rodgers, and the songs seem to represent an equitable meeting of Queen's elegant, larger-than-life ...
| | Pat Travers Radio Active CD (1981) Remastered
SCJ01 album
$14.05 Guitar legend Pat Travers is known for holding court with numerous A-list players who have moved through the ranks of his band over the Toronto native's storied career. In 1981, RADIO ACTIVE found Travers on the cusp of a crossroads in developing a new sound. The result was this bluesy collection of hard rock in which Travis finally focused his considerable virtuosity for a set of concise tunes.
2008 release, the first time on CD for this album from the Canadian Rock/Blues guitarist, originally released in 1981. Moving to the UK in the early '70s, Travers made a name for himself ...
| | Beatles (White Album) CDs (1968)
SCJ01 CD music
$28.49 Each copy of this limited edition is sequentially numbered. The packaging recreates the original double-gatefold sleeve and includes the original poster as well as the individual photos of each band member.
THE BEATLES (generally known as "The White Album" because of its cover) was a sprawling two-record set, highlighting the distinct personalities in the group as they matured and moved further away from each other. With the four Beatles playing like session men on each other's songs, the making of the album was fraught with tension. John Lennon's songs included a bitter take on people who read too much into the Beatles' lyrics ("Glass Onion"), reflections on loneliness and alienation ("Yer Blues," "I'm So Tired"), and the avant garde sound collage "Revolution 9."
George Harrison's songs offered black humor ("Piggies") and tender sadness ("While My Guitar Gently Weeps," with Eric Clapton on guitar). Paul McCartney provided both light, lyric songs ("Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," "Honey Pie"), and rockers ("Back In The U.S.S.R.," the explosive "Helter Skelter"). Ringo Starr made his solo songwriting debut with the goofy country/ska lilt of "Don't Pass Me By" and sang the album closer "Good Night."
