| | Reggie Houston Wordless Praise CD Reggie Houston Discography of CDs
Reggie is a second generation New Orleans musician who not only plays great saxophone and percussion but can be countd on for warm, jazzy vocals, a fine comedy sense, and a charismatic stage presence. As one New Orleans reviewer writes, "Houston serves as a musical straight man to the up-and-ar-em Neville, reacting with Fats Waller-ish mock surprise to her 'Fish Fry' lyrics."Since studying with New Orleans musicians Edward "Kid" Jordan and Alvin Batiste, Reggie has gone on to do regular gigs with such greats as Irma Thomas and Fats Domino, as well as with Charmaine and Amasa. Reggie has also recently recorded with Buffy Saint-Marie and Peter Gabriel. check out Reggie's solo CD "Wordless Praise" Wordless Praise Music | Category | Jazz Albums | | Label | Nawlins Cartunes | | Orig Year | 1999 | | CD Universe Part number | 7152922 | | Catalog number | 52319 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jun 24, 2003 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Recording Time | 41 minutes |

Wordless Praise
$14.19 Much like 2001's SONGS I HEARD and 2004's ONLY YOU, 2009's YOUR SONGS finds vocalist/pianist Harry Connick, Jr. coming up with an urbane, passionate set of American popular standards and contemporary pop classics that he both performs and orchestrates. While his previous recordings leaned toward the classicist side--ONLY YOU featured songs of the '50s and '60s--YOUR SONGS features a more eclectic mix of standards and pop songs, with Connick's own lush orchestration lending an overall aesthetic of languid romanticism. To this end, Connick turns Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" into a kind of Herb Alpert-inspired '60s pop nugget and, conversely, the Beatles' 1964 classic "And I Love Her" gets a kind of '70s Latin lounge feel with classical guitar flourishes. However, Connick isn't only concerned with reworking tunes in unexpected ways; on the contrary, longtime fans of Connick's swinging neo-crooner vocals will be pleasantly surprised ...

| | Herb Alpert Rise CD (1979)
Wordless Praise
$9.75 Reissued, re-mastered, and re-sequenced for the 21st century, Herb Alpert's 1979 album RISE still has the big hair and polyester feel of the early '80s, though club remixes of two of the cuts, "Rotation" and "Aranjuez (Mon Amour)," update the producer/trumpeter's sound for a new audience, with the latter even adding trendy Arabic cadences. The title cut, with its laconic, laid-back feel and insistent bass riff, was also the backing track for the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1990s hit "Hypnotize." The album marked a triumphant comeback for Alpert, its sophisticated, upscale production blending his signature trumpet flourishes with contemporary touches such as massed synthesizers, disco beats, and orchestral backing.
Recorded at A&M Recording Studio, Los Angeles, California.

| | Walter Savage Soothes The Savage Beast CD (1999)
Wordless Praise
$18.99 As the son of a Baptist minister, Walter Savage's church duties were many. But the one he enjoyed the most was being the church pianist. Walter became interested in bass, however, after seeing and hearing Paul Chambers perform with Miles Davis. He immediately purchased a bass and began lessons with Leroy Vinegar, Al McKibbon and other bassists in the Los Angeles area. He is known mostly as a jazz bassist, however, Walter has proven himself as singer, pianist, and composer as well. His blues pop, rock and jazz vocals are truly distinctive and compelling. From 1963 to the present, Walter has appeared in the rhythm sections of Tony Scott, Gerald Wilson, Mary Jenkins, Horace Tapscott, Taj Mahal, Gloria Lynn, Sonny Chris and Arthur Blythe, to name a few. Walter has also appeared with Bobby Hutcherson at Hermosa Beach's famed Lighthouse Jazz Club. Since moving to the Bay Area, Walter has worked with the likes of David (Fathead) Newman, John Handy, Pharoah Sanders and Richie Cole, Harold Jones, Donald Bailey and Mary Stallings (jazz cruises)."Soothes the Savage Beast", his debut CD, is a remarkable collection of original compositions that run the gamut of jazz stylings. Tunes from this CD have been featured on KCSM 91.1, San Francisco's premier jazz radio station. Dave Nathan's AMG review reads, "...Savage displays his considerable virtuosity on bass...is ...
