Recently, he played in the off-Broadway hit musical "Love, Janis", the life story of legendary blues-rock singer Janis Joplin.WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT CHRIS CARTER'S LATEST CD "NIGHT SHIFT""This is a fine CD" Bruce Iglauer (president, Alligator Records, USA) "Highlights of this very good album include two slow blues, 'Wrong Number' and [Otis] Rush's Right Place, Wrong Time, as well as 'Living Under the Gun and Shakin Blues, both of which deliver social commentary much in the manner of fellow New Yorker Michael Hill." JDK, Living Blues Magazine (USA) "Chris Carter rolls out Big Apple-flavored funky blues on Night Shift Carter falls somewhere between B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix-a distorted tone decorates his songs. Best cuts: a nice slow blues take on Otis Rush's Right Place, Wrong Time, and the moody calypso of Carter's own 'Blues Zone'. High quality production is a plus." Ed Ivey, Blues Revue Magazine (USA)"His playing is precise, concise and often exciting, with singing' tones intense feeling without excessive stylistic or electronic gimmickry." Andre Hobus, Soul Bag Magazine (France)"it is clear that Carter is a fine guitarist, ripping through Otis Rush's Right Place, Wrong Time, or playing some searing leads on Gimme Somethin' To Eat." Jon Morgan, Cadence Magazine (USA) "New Yorker Chris Carter is among the best guitarists currently working the East Coast blues circuit. Carter and his excellent band are beginning to attract serious attention with their new CD, 'Night Shift'. A bold, blues-drenched effort that's loaded with great new tunes, the CD has a few well-chosen covers and some of the best interplay between vocals and guitar heard in ages. Carter is an aggressive, imaginative guitarist nothing short of brilliant. Chris Carter's 'Night Shift' is a blues masterpiece that receives my absolutely highest recommendation." Bob Cianci, The River Reporter Newspaper (upstate New York, USA) "Carter is a first rate guitarist and proves his mettle with some fine songwriting on 'Night Shift'. The disc was recorded with a top shelf band and it holds up well with repeated listening." Keith A. Mulhare, New York City Blues Society Newsletter (USA) "Ten electric cuts making up forty-four minutes of funky, rockin' New York blues. Yes, New York City! Hard guitar and r&b/soulrock slants make this an interesting listen. Good arrangements, hot guitar runs and phrasings, and special guest vocalist Bobby Harden. Funked out bass lines, hard breathing keyboards, and pocketed drummin'. Chris Carter is for real Big Apple music with mostly original material!" | | Dave Hall Who Do You Love? CD (2004)
Night Shift
$11.39 "Indie" recording artist Dave Hall is a native New Yorker who now lives in North Central Florida with his wife and three kids. He has been writing songs for over 20 years and has recorded several singles that have had modest radio success in FL. As a singer/songwriter, Hall primarily plays solo acoustic venues like cafes and local concerts. "Who Do You Love?" is his first fully produced CD. Recorded and mastered at REC ROOM Recording Studio in Gainesville, FL, "Who Do You Love?" was produced and engineered by former PETRA bassist, Ronny Cates, winner of 9 DOVE AWARDS AND 3 GRAMMY'S and a member of the GOSPEL MUSIC HALL OF FAME. The project is skillfully and creatively produced. Co-producer, singer/songwriter Dan Dickhaus (who just released his new CD, "So Much Time") together with Cates pool elements from Hall's rock and folk influences to create sounds that best bring his lyrical intent to the surface. Cates also plays acoustic, electric guitars, and bass. Drums are performed with percision and finesse by ROCK-N-ROLL HALL OF FAMER Stan Lynch, founding drummer for TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS. Lynch also toured with Bob Dylan as a drummer for two years. His credits also include playing for and/or producing such artists as Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, Big Sky, The Byrds, Sister Hazel, Aretha Franklin, John Mellencamp, and others. Additional musicians who appear on the CD are: Tracy Collins, well known in the North Central Florida area for his keyboard prowess and creativity; Jim Evans, a gifted live and studio guitarist who too is sought after for his skill, variety, and creativity; and Jeff Sims, an all-around musician and local music store owner who plays with diverse guitar styles. ...

It was a relatively easy transition from electric to acoustic, and to this day some of his long-time musical compatriots believe that he found his true musical voice in the acoustic guitarSteve ...
