| | The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble CDs (2002)
Night Shift CD music
$16.09 Like a comet streaking across the sky, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan's time here was snuffed out far too quickly. Although other posthumous compilations have honored his legacy, including a pair of GREATEST HITS collections and a number of live releases, THE ESSENTIAL serves as a lighter alternative to the heftiness of the SRV box set. Vauhan was blessed with a distinct tone and a versatility on guitar that often found him going from bending strings just short of breaking to lightly playing with the delicacy of a baby's touch, often within the same song. This two-CD set does a fine job of representing the late legend's broad range.
Always generous in crediting his myriad of influences, (Double Trouble's name was taken from an Otis Rush song), SRV ended up covering artists ranging from Buddy Guy ("Mary Had A Little Lamb"), Earl King ("Come On [Part III]"), and Hank Ballard ("Look At Little Sister") to Jimi Hendrix ("Little Wing") and close friend Doyle Bramhall ("Change It"). Live, Vaughan's might was equally impressive, and he still astounds with a segment of his breakthrough 1982 Montreux performance ("Rude Mood/Hide Away") along with in-concert versions of "Superstition" and "Voodoo Child [Slight ...
| | Emmylou Harris Trio II CD (1999)
Night Shift music CDs
$11.55 I FEEL THE BLUES MOVIN' IN is the second set of previously unreleased Trio recordings that were cut in 1994.
"After The Gold Rush" won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals. TRIO II was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Country Album.
Ever since Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt made their Grammy-winning TRIO album in 1987, fans have been clamoring for a sequel. It took twelve years to follow up with Trio II. Harris, Parton and Ronstadt--pop/country queens with three of the most angelic voices ever to grace the airwaves--have been singing together since 1975. Though each has her own distinctive sound, the three blend beautifully.
The material is dizzyingly eclectic, encompassing the old-timey 1934 Carter Family song "Lover's Return," Neil Young's trippy "After the Gold Rush," Randy Newman's lovely "Feels Like Home" and the atmospheric pop of "Blue Train." Harris, Parton and Ronstadt divide up the leads on the tracks, each matching her voice to the material that suits it best. Highlights include the bluesy "I Feel the Blues Movin' In" (Parton), the melodic "High Sierra" (Ronstadt) and, surprisingly, "After the Gold Rush" (Parton), which is given an almost New Age feel. The instrumentation, featuring David Grisman's mandolin and Alison Krauss' fiddle, is tasteful and pristine, highlighting the real stars of the record--those three voices. Is Trio II really a country album? Not exactly. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely.

| | Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials Full Tilt CD (2008)
Night Shift album
$14.99 In the vein of Chicago electric blues titans like Hound Dog Taylor & the HouseRockers, Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials make raucous, blues-based party music fit to bring down the roof. FULL TILT (2008) finds Ed and Co. still going strong after 20-plus years. The leader's slide work and blistering leads are as hot as ever, and the rollicking rhythms of the Blues Imperials threaten to move hips and shake loose inhibitions. Guest appearances by horn and organ players round out this collection ...
| | Ten Years After Recorded Live CD (1973)
Night Shift CD music
$9.79 2 LPs on 1 CD; the song "The Hobbit" is ommitted from the original LP release.
Recorded live in Amersterdam and Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Frankfurt, Germany; Paris, France.
Originally released as a double LP set, RECORDED LIVE was a response to the proliferation of bootlegs of the band's concerts. It was to be as faithful a representation of the band's onstage firepower as possible. In this regard, it succeeds; it's better recorded than their breakthrough UNDEAD, and the performances are generally stronger.
The highpoint is the jazzy, nearly 16-minute assault on "I Can't Keep From Crying." (Historical note: On the Blues Project's REUNION IN CENTRAL PARK album, also released in 1973, Al Kooper, who wrote the song, tells the audience that Ten Years After's version paid for his new car that year). ...
