In 2002 Kathy Corliss released her debut album entitled Appletree. Shortly thereafter she was diagnosed with leukemia which cut her life and budding songwriting career short. Kathy left us with some incredible music which intensely reflects the human experience. From driving melodic rock to the title song Appletree which show her jazz influences, the album crosses over brilliantly. Her beautiful, sometimes haunting alto vocals and soulful music weave a story told in the poetic lyrics of this incredible album. Kathy wrote five more insightfully beautiful songs which have not yet been released. "Appletree is a legacy of love and tenderness. We may never know how brightly Corliss' star might have shone, but it did glimmer for a short while and will stay radiant in the hearts of the people who loved her." The changes at the end are kind of different, like a second middle-8 section that never gets back to the chorus or verse. Lyrics and delivery are on point with the subject matter - well composed, thoughtful lyrics. 1 - Backing Vocals - Terrific. 2 - Lead Vocals - Effective, evocative. You can tell she can re-create her performance live. 3 - Guitars - I like how the guitar resolves to a complimentary melody to the chorus. Playing is quite tasty." Initially planned solely as a standard double-disc reissue in the wake of the blockbuster success of The Fame, Lady Gaga decided to release the new material as a separate EP called The Fame Monster in addition to the standard two-CD set, where it's tacked onto a now standardized version of her debut. It's a nice move for fans, plus it helps emphasize the new material, which does act as a bridge from the debut to a forthcoming full-length. Everything on The Fame Monster bears a galvanized Eurotrash finish, as evident on the heavy steel synths of "Bad Romance" and the updated ABBA revision "Alejandro," as it is on the rock & roll ballad "Speechless" -- its big guitars lifted from Noel Gallagher -- and the wonderful, perverse march "Teeth." Even the stuttering splices on "Telephone," a duet with Beyoncé, leans to the other side of the Atlantic, which just emphasizes the otherness that's become Gaga's calling card. Another Monday Night is the fourth CD release by Swingadelic, a fun and entertaining New York metro area 'Little Big Band'. These sessions came as the result of the band's Monday night performances at Maxwell's in Hoboken NJ. All but one tracks are original compositions and arrangements by various band members. The stand out is Ellington's 'The Gal From Joe's' that Swingadelic recorded for the soundtrack of 'Play It By Ear', a movie starring Michele Hurd and Rita Moreno. Bandleader and upright bassist Dave Post has assembled a first-rate, diverse and talented crew that sound like they are having a good time and communicate that feeling and spirit to the listener.
