Purchase Mima CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | John Mclaughlin Five Peace Band Live CDs (2009)
Mima album
$15.99 Though their paths crossed on the Miles Davis classic IN A SILENT WAY and on Larry Coryell's SPACES, this disc is the first actual collaboration between pianist Chick Corea and guitarist John McLaughlin. The Five Peace Band truly is a super-group, the other members being the versatile bassist Christian McBride (acoustic and electric), saxophonist Kenny Garrett (a Miles alumnus too), and fusion drumming ace Vinnie Colaiuta. LIVE features cozy, intimate Corea-McLaughlin duets, sizzling electric playing, and enchanting acoustic passages. They pay tribute to Miles with a medley of "In A Silent Way" and "It's about That Time," with yet another Miles grad Herbie Hancock guesting on keyboards. And there's even a tasty rendition of a bebop classic, Jackie McLean's "Dr. Jackle." Aside from a righteous meeting-of-the-minds, LIVE proves ...
| | Dave Brubeck Time Out CD (1959) Remastered
Mima CD music
$7.59 Dave Brubeck's TIME OUT ranks alongside Miles Davis' KIND OF BLUE as one of the few advanced jazz masterpieces to achieve great commercial success. In fact, the widespread popularity of TIME OUT, with its cool-toned ambience, smooth style, and elements borrowed from classical music, helped make modern jazz a mainstream phenomenon.
The ubiquitous "Take Five" may be overplayed, but that doesn't diminish the joy of its complex melodic hooks, its perfectly executed solos, or the swinging slink of its 5/4 signature. "Blue Rondo a la Turk" collages Mozart, cool swing, and Brubeck's own classically oriented piano style, and the airy, delicate "Everybody's Jumpin'" showcases the lyrical splendor of saxophonist Paul Desmond. With bassist Gene Wright and drummer Joe Morello keeping the tricky rhythms agile and swift, the Dave Brubeck Quartet blended complexity and accessibility for pure jazz pleasure on TIME OUT, an album everyone should own.

| | Boney James Send One Your Love CD (2009)
Mima songs
$15.65 Along with Dave Koz and Gerald Albright, Boney James has carved out a nice niche for himself as one of the most popular smooth jazz saxophonists ever. | | Thelonious Monk Monk 'Round The World CD (2004) Bonus DVD
Mima CD music
$13.55 This release includes a bonus DVD featuring live performances of "Criss Cross," "Rhythm A Ning," and "Nutty" recorded in London, England in 1965.
Given the plethora of live recordings made of Thelonious Monk in the 1960s (when everyone suddenly seemed to recognize his genius 20-plus years after he began composing and playing), this compilation provides a valuable service in bringing together the best of those performances. Between 1961 and 1965 Monk toured regularly with a quartet that featured Charlie Rouse on tenor sax and a revolving bassist and drummer, and was particularly well received (and documented) in Europe. MONK 'ROUND THE WORLD collects seven tracks from those years.
The tunes are among Monk's best, and have rightfully become standards--they will be familiar to anyone with a knowledge of classic jazz. The sprightly, angular sections of "Epistrophy," the stealthy groove-prowl of "Blue Monk," the beautiful ballad "Ruby, My Dear," and the witty, spastic "Rhythm-A-Ning" are included here in excellent versions. The three quartets featured (with Monk and Rouse the constants) display stellar rapport, exploring the quirks and possibilities of Monk's songs. The disc comes with a bonus DVD of in-concert ...
