General Musical DescriptionThis ever-shifting material is a progressive blend of old school and current cutting edge. Somehow, it manages to cover a wide array of different genres, while maintaining its own identity. People hear a surprisingly diverse number of influences in it, yet they are most struck by its individuality. Each song is different from the others. Each is unique, unexpected, now hard, now soft, and guitar driven. The focus is on the atmospheres and textures created within each piece. Many are dark edged or tinted with mystery. Every song is its own adventure, its own audio landscape. The sound is sometimes both atmospheric and heavy at the same time. While densely complex and layered, it all makes perfect sense to the ear. All of the songs portray both purpose and intent. They are musically emotional and dynamic. All four members fade in and out of the lead role. While there are many tempo and time signature changes, they never give the impression that they were done simply because the artists are capable of it. Instead, they were only done when they would add intensity or embellish the overall feeling of the song. This is a concept album with deep lyrical content. All of the song lyrics are available at the band’s website. Even though each song is very different from the others, there is a complete story being told. Lyrical examination may provide a look into the times we live in, ending with a ray of light. Not just a debut CD, but a debut sound. Personnel: Rivers . Audio Mixer: Rich Costey. Words such as "goofy" and "geeky" have long been used to describe Weezer's music, but these qualities are only one aspect of the band's sound; beneath all the humorous pop culture references and snarky attitude, Rivers Cuomo touched upon a myriad of serious topics including existential angst, aging, and sexual mores. While at first listen RADITUDE seems to be one of the Weezer's silliest albums (song titles include "The Girl Hot Hot" and "In the Mall"), there is, as usual, more than meets the ear. Even on the paean to debauchery "Can't Stop ...

$11.25 Personnel: Karen O (vocals); Thorsten Wörmann (spoken vocals); Dave Fridmann (programming). Audio Mixers: Dave Fridmann; Flaming Lips. Recording information: Dull Roar Studios, Oklahoma City, OK (02/2009-07/2009); Tarbox Road Studios, Cassadaga, NY (02/2009-07/2009). CHRISTMAS ON MARS might be the Flaming Lips' bona fide sci-fi epic, but EMBRYONIC is the musical equivalent of the final scenes of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY: transformative chaos that results in a new start. From ...
| | Brandi Carlile Give Up The Ghost CD (2009)
Beyond Jargon
$11.35 Audio Mixer: Jason Lader. If there was any flaw with Brandi Carlile's second album, THE STORY, it's that it was perhaps a touch too austere, painted in amber tones by producer T Bone Burnett. Its 2009 sequel, GIVE UP THE GHOST, opens up and breathes, perhaps partially due to swapping T Bone for Rick Rubin, who retains the spooky, serious vibe but makes things a little less chilly. This isn't sealed off; there is room for guests here, including such L.A. linchpins as Benmont Tench and Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith, but also Elton John and his arranger, Paul Buckmaster. Tellingly, their presence is felt more than heard, as they never ...
| | Los Angeles De Charly De Amores Y Recuerdos... 20 Exitos Romanticos CD (2004)
Beyond Jargon
$12.95 Never let it be said that singer Charly Becies lacks a sense of humor. In Spanish, the name of his group los Angeles de Charly means "Charley's Angels" -- an obvious reference to the campy late-'70s television program Charlie's Angels. Plus, the group is based in Los Angeles. But while Becies' band has a humorous name, their music is another matter; los Angeles de Charly are known for consistently romantic lyrics, and they don't do it with the least bit ...
| | J Band Africas And Ithacas CD (2003)
Beyond Jargon
$12.49 The J Band, a revolution of rhythm and melody, is stirring souls and setting feet to dancing throughout all corners of the world, continuing what they began many years ago. It was in Davis, California where Jordan Lindsey and Amit Katzir crossed paths, each with a guitar and Jordan with a fresh set of songs. They quickly connected and thus their course was set out before them, ferociously playing wherever the spirit lead them. "It was like we had been playing together for years. Amit was the skilled master and I was the raw storm and together the music took life. It still amazes me."As the crowds grew so did the ...
