Doomsday Rock 'n Roll is the long incubated debut album from self-professed "Biker Metal" band Chrome Division -- a side project of Dimmu Borgir main man Shagrath which has finally been given wings, or, better yet, wheels, with which to tear down highways of its own accord. And, as such secondary sonic ventures go, it must be said that the album's 12 gas-guzzling hard rock anthems are pulled off with astonishing confidence and what seems like surprising ease. Maybe it's the freshness of working within such purely hard rock idioms that help these normally uptight black metal musicians rid the music of its inherent clichés, because it's not like there's anything revolutionary on hand here, songwriting-wise. Rather, full-throttle speedsters like "Serial Killer," "Hate," and "When the Shit Hits the Fan" are essentially Motörhead wannabes (but thrilling ones at that!); melodically spiced and memorably chorused highlights "Chrome Division," "Here Comes Another One," and "The Angel Falls" aren't much different from (only much more infectious) contemporary efforts by Americans Halfway to Gone or Brand New Sin; and somewhat weaker, punkish biker anthems like "1st Regimen" and "Breathe Easy" actually recall '90s British washouts the Almighty! But, line them up front to back, and Doomsday Rock 'n Roll's overall lineup makes for an intense, carefree, and hellaciously fun ride, on a scale that neither Turbonegro nor the Hellacopters (to cite but two recent Scandinavian benchmarks of the genre) have managed in a long, long time. Get on your bikes and ride.~ Eduardo Rivadavia

Peter Dogget describes pop music careers in 1964 England like this: "[U]nless you were Cliff Richard or the Beatles you were likely to be forgotten within 12 months of your first hit." This album was initially intended as a way to cash in on the primal magic of "You Really Got Me" before the Kinks got too stale for the fickle youth. However, history would show that this tidy R&B combo had one of the most inventive and creative bandleaders in '60s and '70s rock & roll in Mr. Ray Davies.
This reissued, remastered version of the band's eponymous debut--complete with 12 bonus tracks, including the previously unreleased Davies composition "I Don't Need You Anymore"--may not hold up to the high level of The Kinks' groundbreaking work over the ...

$11.39 Thanks for all the great, unsolicited comments from our new Fans (see below)! We love you!!! Here's what professional reviewers are also saying (we love you too!):"The Victors have a no-nonsense approach that is one part classic rock and one part indie college rock, and it's a combination that works perfectly. The sound is steeped in their positively-charged native California-cool, with a touch of Southern sensibility that reminds me of early 80s Athens, GA.While the band doesn't venture out too far into uncharted territory, they make up for it with skilled songwriting that's ...
