Classic Groove Holmes
If you enjoy jazz organ led bands, this album will not disappoint you. Groove plays a Wurlitzer, which has a different sound than the Hammond B 3, but Groove didn't get his name by being a slouch. He makes this organ sing, and Gene Edwards is a perfect compliment on guitar. Check out the Max Roach-Clifford Brown jam Daahoud; it swings. The band does a nice job with the Errol Garner classic "Misty", but the surprise and treat is the Horace Silver timeless tribute 'Song for My Father". This is another album that I was introduced to as a teenager, and like many of the Prestige Jazz Series and Blue Note albums of the day, there were few if any disappointments. For you budding audiophiles, whenever you see the name Rudy Van Gelder the original engineering was superb therefore, the digital transfer pratically captures the ambiance of the room.
